If there was any lingering doubt that KM should get the job, tonight has answered that question - NO. We need a proven manager not a gamble. Our season is falling apart already, Randy pull one out the bag, quick!!!

If we defend like that on Sun, it's going to be another horror show.

Suspect that no one will disagree that we need a manager asap. I think Randy knows that as much as anyone.

The problem is that due to MON's impeccable timing there are zero obvious candidates. The easy bit is appointing a manager. The difficult part is appointing a good one. You can bet irrespective of who is appointed there will be much wailing and gnashing of teeth on this and other villa boards.

Well Lerner is in the stands tonight, so clearly doing something Villa related. Off Topic but Lerner can't afford to lose to much more weight, he is starting to luck like Tom Hanks in Philidephia.

I thought the same.

Even more off topic, but that look of his with a shirt, tie, jumper and jacket really doesn't work these days.

I can tell you from experience paulie that N.America is a year or so behind in the trends dept. I would also say that in Cleveland he is probably ahead of the curve..

He's a Yew Yoiker now man, get with it, get with it .... and you Lerner, hardly Marc fuckin Jacobs are you ? :-)

Well, I don't think it will be the next 24 hours, since I think the plan has been for MacDonald.

Dig from Stan post game...

Aston Villa's Stiliyan Petrov: "We had enough chances to win the tie and it's just unacceptable. We worked so hard last season to get into Europe and we blew it today. We need to improve all over the park, we're not doing things right. Everyone who takes a penalty needs to score and I missed one. It's [sic] be nice to know who's going to be manager of the club."

I'm guessing he meant 'it's going to be nice...'.

It's clear the response to O'Neill's resignation has been really poor, worse if they've deliberately run the transfer clock down.

Sounds like he wants a new manager in and not KM.

I don't think plan was for KM, I just think they can't get anyone suitable in....

Very frustrated after tonight. MacDonald looks lost on the bench. That little fat chief executive and our mute chairman need to make a decision and their inevitable cost cutting plan of appointing MacDonald looks ridiculous and short sighted. Still wouldn't surprise me tho if they pissed 4 years of steady progress up the wall by giving him the job.

Lukey27, why wouldn't it suprise you? What have the board done over the last 4 years to merit such distrust?

Get in Sven now. Available, respected globally and will give us stability and calm.

I'm probably just frustrated but to hear that MacDonald was the only candidate in the frame even yesterday smacks of either extreme naivety or bizarre cost cutting. Either option doesn't fill me with confidence. Yes O'Neill left but this summer has been very negative and our net spend in the last 12 months is quite average in terms of this league. The next few weeks will be interesting

I say Sven as well but it won't happen because he would want money to spend and Randy has shut up shop.

I'm fucking annoyed at tonights result and the mistakes KM made but there appear to be more rumours about Hitzfeld appearing....

Keep your fingers crossed this is true. There are few better.

I would put my life savings down that there won't be a new manager in by tomorrow.

His nickname is Der General

I wouldn't count on it, would get very confusing at board meetings

"Hitzfeld was at the match tonight"

Yes, I bet he was, sat in the directors enclosure in the Trinity Road, totally unnoticed by the watching television cameras.

What a load of old cock.

Well let's see what Faulkner is made of now.  We hear how well connected he is in the game and how he has advisors in high places.  This is as big a decision as he's had to make so his credibility is on the line.  Time will tell.

In the absence of any obvious alternatives I am coming to the conclusion that you are right.
