Could it be that he is merely starting the process of interviewing candidates and Sven is merely one of those? Good sign if so.

I realise you probably didn't mean it, but nobody has actually said anything about balancing a budget, have they?

That's the implication of all this living within our means stuff.

Not really.

Balancing the budget means spend only what we earn. All we've heard is the need to do something about the wage bill.

One of the websites has Danny Murphy at 284-1.  How marvellously random is that?

If that's the case I must be in at about 250-1.

Mark, how is Sven thought of in Portugal after his time with Benfica? I realise this was a while ago...

That Hoffenheim manager might be a goer. He did have alot of money to spend but he's clearly got contacts within the game - I don't know much about him but they've brought 4 or 5 real quality players into the club in recent years who were pretty much unknown.

Demba Ba, Carlos Eduardo, Ibsivic (forget his first name) are their forwards who are all highly rated and the fullback Beck is too.

I wouldn't be horrified by this.

I would, this is the man last seen whoring himself at Notts County.

Was he? or did he buy into some delusional dream by a chancer? That said he does like a big contract. If he came here for a reasonable wage with a remit of sorting the coaching and scouting out then I wouldn't mind. As long as it was a 12 month contract

Brittany Murphy is only 300/1

The last time there were collapsing odds was the MON resignation, I stayed calm and sceptical then and look where it got me.

"Calm and sceptical"???  You were utterly dismissive man!

There's no way they would be idiotic enough to appoint him would there?

As I said before, depends which Sven turns up:

Multi-trophy winning genius, or

mony grabbing mercenary who'd turn up anywhere

If you gave Sven a plan over 3 years with a modicom of assured stability then he'd be a great choice. At man City he had started something very good and it all crashed. I believe he'd still be there today if there wasn't such back room volatility. I find it hard to believe that he wouldn't be open to working at Villa under the current board provided they can agree on a working relationship and budgetary framework. The man has links all across the world and like I said before, not perfect, but 3 or 4 years it would be very interesting.

I was calm and sceptical for most of the time. Then I formed a theory and became dismissive for about five minutes, before it hit SSN and everything went mental.

I really don't know what to make of Sven. I think he is a clever man with a good knowledge of the game but, his time may be gone...

I think there would be better options but Sven isnt that bad. And his record is fantastic on the whole.

I was going to make a crude comment relating to his fantastic record on the hole (see what I nearly did there?)but thought better of it.

I think he'd be a disastrous appointment, the Man must be minted enough by now without having to seek yet another pay out for failure from some other gullible football team?

That's splitting hairs, the point I was making is that Sven would not be the obvious candidate if you are looking to reduce the percentage of turnover spent on wages. At Man City he bought about a zillion players on the strength of watching a few DVDs if I remember rightly.

He was willing to come to Villa and work under Doug wasn't he?

Fake sheikh thing. Can't remember how long ago that was exactly.
