Pelligrini for me would be the most interesting and ambitious. He has just left Real Madrid after getting 90 odd points in the league, and had to have done bloody well to get that opportunity. It would be a real current big name appointment, and one that would at least capture the imagination.

Having said all that though, the City players seemed to love Sven, and until March/ April time when they were buggered by Frank Sinatra getting done for his monetary issues and making it clear Sven was getting the boot, they were going well. We have a better squad than they did then, and if he could get a couple of targets in before the window shuts with the Milner money we might be unexpectedly quite strong.

How about Roberto Martinez ? Did well at Swansea and does well at Wigan.

would be my first choice,

but unfortunatly he doesnt make the H+V poll, and i've heard thats the poll Randy is looking at for guidance,
so we are out of luck mate

For me, the thinking outside of the box in our case should mean making an approach for a manager who most fans, pundits, and players would ordinarily think was out of our league.  Failing that, a Jol-level appointment would do for a while: I doubt we'd slip back much, if at all, and we might even move forward slightly.  But that's the least we should consider.

Pellegrini

He was disappointed at missing out on the Liverpool and said he'd love to manage in the Premier League. Why not?
The only downside that i can see is that "Manuel Pellegrini's Claret and Blue Army" doesn't scan too well.......

Have you considered dropping the Manuel?

The more I think about it, the more I want Bilic, but the more I expect Klinsmann.

I'm not sure about Sven. Maybe a couple of years ago, but i think he's time has gone. I can't see him managing a big side again. He just seems to be drifting from job to job now, he was even happy enough to pick up a fortune at Notts County by not doing very much.

A good, thoughtful post cb.  I have to say though that I totally disagree about appointing a young, hungry manager.  That's what you do if your club is potless and / or at a very low ebb.

Or if your club is Barcelona?

Still needs a bit of work, but work it just might. Has he signed yet?

I hope not. How can Bilic be on the poll, and Rijkaard be off it?

And the case for Jol is massively over stated, start probing and there is no way he should be so far out in front.

Hitzfeld ( whom i have met!) is out of our league. Pelligrini has a case, BUT , i dont think he speaks English and hasonly ever worked in a Hispanic environment, so would be operating way out of his comfort zone and would probably import a sizeable hispanic contingent which could destabilise the club.

We can add some more names and reset the poll if the want is there. I have added in Hitzfeld, Pellegrini and Martinez

It's a fair point but I would say Guardiola was more a 'boot room' type appointment than a punt on an unknown from another club.  He was there 11 years as a player, and managed their B team.  His knowledge of how the club works must be a great advantage to him but, nevertheless, it was a gamble for Barcelona.  One which has paid off handsomely too, but I would say Guardiola is an exception rather than the norm.  It's very unusual for someone with zero top-flight experience to succeed in the way he has so I'm not sure it's a route we should necessarily be looking to follow.

Pellegrini would be good, I was saying we should go for him when it looked like MON was going late on at the end of last season (it was apparent he was leaving Real).

Speaks English, did wonders at Villarreal.
