That match showed up Wenger's bizarre bllindness in refusing to understand that he needs both a bit of steel and determination in amongst all the fantastic passing, and a decent goalkeeper. Until he sorts that out, Arsenal won't win anything.

I've recently wondered if he would have still been Arsenal manager now if he didn't have Seaman, Adams, Keown, Winterburn and Dixon for his first 5 years or so. He did well getting Campbell to replace Adams early 2000's and Cole came through the ranks at about that time as well but his record since for defensive players has been comparatively atrocious in most cases.

Edit: Bloody dodgy internet connection meant Karlos beat me to the point.

For all Wenger's pretty football and discovery of unknown talent, they haven't won anything in six years and that's unacceptable to a team like Arsenal.

A team like Arsenal who had won next to bugger all before Wenger came along.
I reckon they owe him some slack yet.

I'm guessing you're being ironic Dave?

Not really, okay so they had won the odd trophy before Wenger but they were hardly the Big Four club that they are now presumed to be were they?
Arsenal owe Wenger a huge amount of debt, he made them into the Sky4 club that they are.

I'm glad Arsenal lost. The continual wanking over Wilshire pissed me off no end. And that arrogant little tosser Fabregas showing how to blow bubbles with chewing gum. They took blues for granted and paid the price. Just hope Man C do the same with us on Wednesday.

Crikey, Dave. The odd trophy?

In nine years, Graham won them:

2 First Division Championships, 1 FA Cup, 2 League Cups, and 1 UEFA Cup Winners' Cup.

You've got a point in that Wenger has built "the club" in the wider sense, largely behind (with Dein) the move from Highbury to the Emirates and putting the club on an incredibly sound financial basis, but he inherited a club which had won plenty under the previous manager and had what was easily the best defence since Sky invented football for us.

I was born in 1970, between then and Wenger arriving they won 3 titles, 3 FA Cups (including the double), 2 League Cups, 1 Fairs Cup and 1 Cup Winners Cup. As well as a fair few other final appearances.

Since he arrived they won 3 titles and 4 FA Cups. He has indeed won a fair few pots, but they weren't exactly small heath when he took over. To me, they've always been one of the biggest clubs in the country.

Yes, and me. Based on one good game against Barcelona, he was suddenly the future of English football

He may well be that in the long run but I wish we could all temper our expectations a little

I would rate Arsenal as, historically, the third biggest club. I would put Villa fourth.

He did didn't he!
I humbly apologise and offer up the fact that I was following Tamworth around the country when not fighting wars as an excuse for my ignorance!

I'd argue that they will always owe Herbert Chapman far more, they'd won smeg all until they got him from Huddersfield.

But under Wenger/Dein/Sky they have been one of those clubs that have benefited hugely from modern football.

They prefer posing and prancing and moaning and sulking and complaining to actually grabbing a victory by any means necessary.

I'd agree, with Everton a gnats bollock behind us.

I must have watched another game, I thought Arsenal were by far the best team and Wilshire was the best player on the park by a long margin.

Of course, and Wenger has been a club builder in much the way that Chapman was, but that era is of far less relevance to Wenger's situation than what came before him, and what came before him was pretty sound.

It'll be interesting to see how long patience lasts, though. They need to win something soon.

Wilshire looks a fine talent but lost out 2nd half to Ferguson. I thought Foster was the best player on the park followed closely by Johnson.

Arsenal go from the sublime (Barcelona) to the ridiculous (small Heath today)
That aside, SHA were very good today and they did the 2nd city good. Well done
