Dion giving savage a glasgow kiss.

The most beautiful thing ive ever seen on a football pitch.

This event also contributed greatly to our eventual defeat. With 11 vs 11, it was heading for 0-0.

And for that reason, Dion, you are a fool.

Are you sure? I always thought we were losing by the time Dion was sent off, and that it had little bearing on the game.

I could be wrong though as I've tried to erase that night from my memory.

It makes no odds what the score was. Dion took us down to their level - losing to them is never pretty but we could at least have done it with a bit of dignity.

Agreed, but that wasn't my point. My point was that I don't think it was heading for a 0-0 when it happened, therefore it didn't change the outcome of the game.

He got sent off after 51 minutes and they scored their first after 74.

Yes it was 0-0 at the time. They scored in the last 20 minutes before our customery goalkepping error allowed them to get a 2nd goal. After this, Gudjohnsen got sent off bringing us down to 9 men.

Horrible night.

The abject surrender of a 2-0 lead to Hull to lose 2-3 in the last few minutes on a grey grey afternoon in November 1967 made me realise we really were shit and getting back to the 1st Division wasn't going to be happening any time soon.

With all that's happened since, that remains my most shocking moment, probably because up to that point I'd had a cheerfully youthful (and utterly unrealistic) belief in Aston Villa to overcome such trivial obstacles such as being trashed 2-6 by Chelsea (on Match Of The Day too!) and gaining a masterly 2 points from our last nine games the season before to join Blackpool in going down.

I've tried to temper every disappointment since then by remembering how it felt to stand there and watch a terrible team lose so gutlessly. It's largely worked.

Throwing it away against Stoke City last season. They were easily the worst away side I've ever seen at VP until the last 5 minutes.

My first full season was 86-87 as a 9 year old, so I think I share your viewpoint.

Losing to Wimbledon at Plough Lane in the FA Cup to a Alan Cork goal in what seemed to be the last minute of an extremely long and wet game.

Losing to Wimbledon at Selhurst in the FA Cup to penalties taken in the fog at the other end of the ground.

These may not have ever happened or if they did, happened differently, but that's how I remember them.

Whilst the thought of He Who Walks On water playing for the filth sends a shudder down one's spine, it's also a shame in a way that we didn't take that *spits* Francis money off them for a player who never played again.

I remember that Hull game, it was so foggy you couldn't see the Witton End goal. More cheerfully, if memory serves, the following the season the home game v Hull was the complete reverse ie they went 2-0 up & we turned it round to win 3-2
