Oh I forgot, I think I still have a lifetime ban at the Sty for shouting 'animals, bastards' at Robert Hopkins. I got arrested and thrown into a van after 10 minutes of a Blues v Villa gane, was given a lifetime ban by the copper on caution but walked around to the Tilton and watched the last 15 minutes, we won 3-1, the eightees....they were great!!
I cannot, maybe i'm wrong here, remember us beating them 3-1 at the Sty in the 1980s??

League Cup, two-legged early round? It was something like that at theirs, then I think we put 5 past them back at ours. Not definite without checking. Would, but can't be arsed right now. Might look in a bit

Apparently, according to tinterweb, we've never won 3-1 at theirs. 2-0 and 5-0, that league cup tie

I know. We won in the league 2-1 (80/81), 1-0(81/82) and 2-1(87/88). Lost 3-0 (82/83), 2-1 (83/84) and drew 0-0 (85/86). I think we were in different divisions the other years. maybe it was a frielndly.

Was that a goaless draw in 1984 when their own striker they loaned to Coventry (Mick Ferguson) scored a goal to help send them down? Actually I'm 99.9% sure it was and didn't really need to ask the question but it is always nice to bring it up again.

I went to the Sty before I ever went to Villa (in 1974 with my big brother). They lost 5-1 or something at home to West Ham (useless back then as well :D). That's the only time I've been there for a non Villa game.

I was twelve and in the Villa end. A bluenose work colleague of mine who was too young to remember those days was asking me if I was scared by the atmosphere at 'the Enckelman game'. He said he had never known anything like it. I told him it was nothing compared to Boxing day 1982.

I went with my Port Vale supporting mates to the Sty about 13 years ago when Vale were in the old Division 2. I wore my Villa shirt under my jumper and was seen to be celebrating even more than the Vale fans when Vale scored and eventually won the match

I was at that game in the away end in the Tilton and it was one of the worst defeats of my life. It compounded what was already a shit Christmas.

There was a real nasty mood among Villa fans too that day, and as it was probably the last time Blues had a gate over 40k I can assume it was reciprocated. I can't remember clearly as i have tried to deny all knowledge of the game.

Overall I felt it was less violent than the previous February when we had won 1-0 a few days after Saunders had joined them. That was a real firecracker of a day with running battles around the ground and into town, with a fair number of C Crew kicking off on the Kop before the game. A Geordie mate of mine came along and said that game completely changed his opinion of Villa fans. He thinks we are violent nutters.

The abuse we gave Noel Blake was as hate filled as anything I can remember from Villa fans. Unfortunately he got the first goal right in front of us. I think Handysides got a late third and I have a vague memory that Curbishley might have got the other goal. Jimmy Rimmer's last game for us.

Neither was as bad as the 1988 second division game, which even Noses of my acquaintance refer to a bad one, which is saying something. One calls it the Vietnam game while another said of it, "You got the feeling all afternoon that if you'd lit a match the whole ground would have exploded."

It's the only game when I've walked through the city centre afterwards, seen the gangs roaming round and thought it was wrong that football should impose itself on society like this.

Was that the game where Garry Thompson got a couple of goals? I was about as far away as I could possibly be, on holiday in Australia. Which was a good move from everything I've heard since. I remember phoning home for the result and then on my return to England I made my only ever visit to their club shop to buy the video of the game.
