Westwood needs to come up with a big score in this one.

Westwood may end up carrying his bat but Lancs only need 1 now.  161 for 9.

At least they're putting up some fight - he and Imran Tahir have put on 27 for the last wicket.

It's all over.

197 all out.  Keedy's absence made no difference because his replacement Kerrigan took 5 bowling slow left arm.

Only three Bears (and extras) made it into double figures.  Ambrose, Woakes, Carter and Naqqash Tahir all got ducks.

I'm not a fan but Westwood deserves credit for carrying his bat for 82.

The season is already shaping up to be a relegation scrap.

Two defeats out of two and that's with our two England players.

Although on this form Trott will be lucky to retain his place.

Hapless Surrey still managing to batter the Pears.  Shame.

Surrey 338 for 5 off 78 overs.

At least Maddy scored 252 on his comeback. Should strengthen the top of the order.

Can't say i'm too surprised too see that Adil Rashid has returned from England duty with his confidence shattered and a brand new bowling action that he is struggling with, Yorkshire CCC are not very happy with those responsible particulary as they informed them he needed a bit more time to develop before he was ready to step up to International cricket.

Bears v Hampshire

Hampshire 86 for 4.  Carter's got 3 for 28 off 12.

Great start from the Bears.  Carberry 55 not out though; him and Pothas batting now.  Could be a dangerous partnership that.  We need to capitalise on this good start.

Not Bears or Pears. But the Aussies lost to Zimbabwe in a warm up game. Chortle.

He's going to have to move down the order. You might as well play Carter as an opener and tell him to go out and belt it for whatever he can get like in the one dayers. I bet he would be more successful than Westwood. I would hope that Maddy & Chopra will open when Bell & Trott are away.

I've been saying for ages that Westwood is a poor player.  Some of his stats are terrible:

career average less than 35

7 first class centuries in 116 innings

It's not as if he can be regarded as a promising youngster either: he's nearly 28.

Having a walking wicket at the top of the Warwickshire innings is putting too much pressure on the middle order.  It can't help his captaincy either, knowing that he's struggling to hold down a place in the side on merit.

I do wonder sometimes how someone of such limited ability manages to make a living as a professional cricketer.  And, given some of the players Warwickshire have let go or lost over the last few seasons, it makes you wonder why we held on to such a crapper as Westwood.

He's never looked anything other than average and so we made him captain.
