I wouldn't mind Doyle, especially if it was alongside Keane. They do well together for Ireland, don't they?

Keane can take a penalty too.

Gabby and Keane, with Doyle and Carew waiting in reserve. Now that is a foursome fit for Aston Villa.

Let Jimmy go and get Ireland, Richards, Clyne and Parker in and we'll have made a tidy profit (when factoring in Heskey, Shorey, Luke, Beye, NRC), so when we're in a decent position in January we'll be able to strengthen.

Dissapointed we weren't in for Tommy Hitz though, and likewise with Joe Ledley. Both would improve the squad without commanding a definite first team place.

Agreed jj , some good suggestions there but I can't see west ham letting Scott Parker go unfortunately, clyne would be a good signing too!

I'll try not to worry about the 'OMG! NO! posts in case it's the same clowns who were screaming it about Huddlestone last year.

I agree with Percy.  There'll be plenty of time to get worked up about O'Neill's predictable and uninspired signings once he's made them.

.....and Hitz is the past, not the future.

Keane at the right price would make a decent squad member.

Not sure about Doyle though.

Uninspired signings hilts?

Dunne, Warnock, and Collins, were all uninspiring signings at the time, but turned out to be inspired.Thats before i mention Delph and AYoung.

Don't turn out like the rest of them for christs sake hilts, we've got enough on here already

They were good signings last season, absolutely, particularly Collins and Dunne.

But they didn't get us any higher up the table.

What we need, and have done for some time, is a signing (or signings) that goes beyond the solid, hard-working and dependable.

Looking at last season's team, and how we struggled to break down even moderate teams, and knowing that next season is probably going to be even tougher, I don't think to myself "What that team needs is Kevin Doyle."

Ashley Young and Collins are the only ones you could call inspired. The others were very obviously available players that are solid pros and do a job. Delph the jury is out on until we see him in the side regularly, but again, he was a fairly obvious young player to go in for.

Only Young has been inspired as a forward signing, and this summer the requirement is a couple of ultra creative and fairly inspired signings.

£22m + £12m = £34m.  And I suppose they helped get them 5 places higher in the table.

Add on the other millions of pounds they spent on Tevez, Adebyaor, De Jong, Barry, Santa Cruz...oh and did'nt they do well?
