From VT

On SSN about 5 mins.. Milner leaving BH sat in his car signing autographs on his way out.

SSN said - Mancini wanted to sign him by today so you would have thought he would be in Mancs

It's not just Ireland deal held up then it's Milner as well.

SSN just saying they're trying to find out latest.

Stories that we scouted Loic Remy last night.

I've heard he's been linked with much of the Premiership but have little idea of what he's like in terms of play and goalscoring record?

Within a week of MON leaving we've already appointed scouts? That's fast work.

Anyone can edit wikipedia.

I can go and change it to say he's signed for Studley and District Paper Boys XI if i want.

They must have nipped down to Peterborough to pick up their passports, they never would have got them in the post that quickly.

Where Villa are concerned, news always seems to break in the evening unless they have to respond to something. Wouldn't surprise me if the deal had been done but it wouldn't surprise me if there was a hold-up related to getting a golden goodbye as someone suggested.

MIlner was due to go straight to Manchester after the England match to tie it up. Due to a hitch in the Ireland part of the deal he was told to report to BH. I am hoping it is just Ireland getting his boot loaded up with his pay off money that has slowed it down.

Maybe Milner is stalling over his loyalty bonus?

If so, the Lee Evans love child can fuck right off. If he wants a loyalty bonus I'll happily offer a flash of my middle finger. Better than nothing James!

I would be amazed if we did a part exchange deal when we don't have a manager.

Ireland won't have a clue who he's going to be working with or whether the new manager will want him in any case.

Who is mean't to be signing Ireland anyway?

And who is deciding his value as well as Milner's value?  I assume it's Mr Lerner.

Even Doug didn't sell David Platt until he'd appointed Big Ron.

From Express and Star

Villa’s hopes of completing the James Milner and Stephen Ireland £26million part-exchange deal by the close of play today hung in the balance.

Milner trained with Villa today after featuring from the bench for England in last night’s win over Hungary at Wembley, while Ireland was still in Manchester thrashing out a compensation deal with City.

It had been hoped a deal would be completed today, but the latest hitch in Milner’s transfer saga means it now threatens to go on for at least another day.

Both clubs are eager to beat tomorrow’s lunch-time deadline to register players for Saturday’s opening games.

Villa owner Randy Lerner has received dozens of applications for the vacant managerial post at the club, following Martin O’Neill’s shock departure on Monday.

The American will refuse to be rushed into an appointment, with caretaker boss Kevin MacDonald entrusted with the job until a permanent replacement is found.

Former England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson was made the new bookies’ favourite yesterday and is reportedly ready to accept a cut in his wage demands.

Back at Villa, O’Neill’s assistant John Robertson along with coaches Steve Walford and Seamus McDonagh have also left the club.
