I understand the arguments for and against Keane. My own view is that he might bring us something different to what we already have and providing the price was right, i'd take him.

Would agree with this.

We need an alternative to Gabby with Carew or Heskey as I do not think Delfouneso is ready yet to partner Gabby.  As shown before, Heskey cannot play with Carew against average to good sides.

Keane could play with Gabby or Carew or the Fonz for that matter as he can adapt to different positions.  It would also mean that we would not have to go like-for-like with substitutions, he gives you options.

The big issue would be how much we would have to pay.  In my opinion it would need to be some way south of £10m, £8m would be a good deal.

Ireland, keane , Doyle. And clyne plus another midfielder would be a good summers business, it would mean
losing milner and some of our bench players but would be for the teams benefit overall.

Similar to selling platty when big ron spent the cash wisely and built a better team!

It would depend on who that other midfielder was as Ireland for Milner would weaken us a fair bit in an area where we desperately need to improve if we are to push on above 6th position.

I think Ireland playing infront of a specialist holding player, who can give what Petrov does plus extra power and pace, would be a better balance than we have right now.

I agree and I think that player could be Milner.

It's accademic if he goes, but I think there's so much more to his game that he'd be wasted playing in that role.

If we must buy an old striker with premier league experience would much prefer Santa Cruz to Keane.

In some games Milner did start to play from deeper and it could work with his energy but his short passing/pass and go game would need to improve.  Whether he sees himself in this role is a different matter.  He may see himself as a replacement for Gerrard and Lampard in a couple of seasons.

Yes but as I've said before, he wouldn't be limited to the role Petrov plays because he doesnt have to. I suppose its putting a box to box midfielder behind a playmaker rather than specialist attacking and defensive midfielders.

More adventurous, more risky, more exciting.
I would however, play this only occasionally and use another more defensive midfielder or another box to box midfielder too.

I truely believe Santa Cruz is a one season wonder:-
2009/2010 - 20 apperances and 4 goals
2008/2009 - 19 apperances and 3 goals
2007/2008 - 31 apperances and 19 goals

Didn't do anything of any mote before that either.

In terms of types of midfielder it may work, but we'd still be taking what I see as our best player and limiting his effectiveness by giving him too much defensive responsibilities.  I see him very much in the Gerrard style and anyone who wanted to play Stevie G in Mascherano's position would be mad.

I'd like to see this 2 winger system go, a d meke the midfield stronger with 3 midfielders , whether that means downing loses his place depends on him but we are too predictable playing with 2 wide men And need someone to unlock teams through the middle.

The difficulty with this is if you have a naturally wide player like Young, you start to look unbalanced like we were before when we had NRC playing on the right.

The only way it works is if you go for a more attacking 4-3-3 or have a strong attacking fullback on the opposite side to your wide midfield player.
