Another cracking pair of goals from Carroll again last night. I'm telling you, that boy is going to score shitloads. We should pull out all the stops to get him before somebody else does, or Newcastle regain their former power.

Against Scunthorpe United, mind.

There is no way Newcastle will sell him, anyway. When they get promoted, they're already going to find themselves lumbered with the same squad that got them relegated (with the addition of dubious quality like Leon Best and Wayne Routledge), no money forthcoming from their owner, and an unproven manager.

They'd be committing suicide if they sold their only goalscorer, and I suspect they know it.

They commited Suicide buying al that shit they did, so you never know...

It doesnt really matter who you're playing against when you score goals like he did last night and goals like he's scored all season. He's only 20 too remember.

And for exactly the points you outline we should appraoch Newcastle. They'll need cash to improve the overall quality of their squad. Carroll alone wont keep them up.

Robert Earnshaw scores lots in the fizzy pop league.

Carroll does look good but I'm not sure he's the answer at the moment, I'm not sure Newcastle would let him go unless they get promoted and overspent on shit again.

Not only is Carroll a better player, he's 8 years younger. We have to find the next big things before they are the next big things. And again, I'm not touting him as an immediate solution but one that can find his way over the next couple of years. I also think he'd score a fair few in the Premier League right now.

Keane and Beckford would be a good addition upfront. Clyne for cover at the back and a creative CM.
Btw - Snejder looked as good as any CM in the world at the moment.

He might be the next Dean Ashton or he might be the next Bret Ormerod. If we're buying a striker this year I want to know that he'll be good enough to do a job staright away, we've got Delfuneso in the promising youngster category.

That's my standpoint on this one, too.

Instant improvement is what we need most up front.

I'd go for Carroll. a barcodes fan I work with has been singing his praises for 2 seasons now. Thinks he is the real deal, just attitude problems might hold him back. If he was not a footballer, I am told that Durham Prison might be a regular place he visits during his life !!

We can have more than one promising youngster. In fact, its the only way we're going to get top class players. Before their stock is too high.

I think you'll be waiting a while for world beaters to be honest. Although I am absolutely in agreement that we should be after a top class striker this summer. That's not instead of but in addition to Carroll though.

And for the record, I think Carroll will be better than Ashton.

I'm not expecting world beaters, I'm not from Antrim. I'm just talking about the striking equiavlents of Warnock or Downing.

Of course we can have more than one promising youngster. However it is also true that the more you buy in the fewer opportunities there are for those already here. You're a great advocate of our youth policy, he would present another obstacle to those players getting a chance. That said, if we sign a young striker he'd get my support as always; I'm just not sure that it's the direction we need to go in at the moment.

I agree, but I'm struggling to think of somebody who'd fit the bill, apart from the Ex-Spurs Striker Who Now Plays For Sunderland.

Some depressing names being put forward on here. Doyle ffs...... Once, just once, i'd like us to sign someone who'd genuinely make people sit up and take notice.

What does it matter if people take notice when we sign them. I don't care how much they cost, what nationality they are, even if I've heard of them or not. I want people to take notice after they start playing for us, like they did with Gabby, Milner, Dunne and Young. If we can find another four who make similar contributions, we'll be laughing, even if they come from the reserves.

the time for players like Doyle is long passed. if you think we're near to 4th place, then the next level has arrived. if you could trawl round picking up promising youngsters and decent club players and compete, then the likes of man united and chelsea would be doing it. An established and probably expensive striker to compliment and challenge gabby is what is needed

I do like Doyle, but that was not my point at all. My point is that I'm not bothered if our signings don't fit some identikit ideal. It doesn't matter if it's the kind of player who will make people sit up and take notice. It doesn't matter how much he costs or his nationality. These things are no guarantee of anything. Warnock, Dunne, Collins, Gabby, Young, Milner, didn't make anybody sit up and take notice until they got into our team. Would anybody turn down another half-dozen that good, wherever they're from?

Yes, I wouldn't suggest holding up the likes of Delfouneso. What I'm suggesting is the replacements for Heskey and Carew. Carroll is a bigger goal threat than Heskey now in my opinion and has the qualities of Carew that make him such a threat and dare I say, a lot more of a killer instinct. More hunger.

So I guess what I'm suggesting is that we have Agbonlahor, Delfouneso, Carroll and a new "flagship" striker if you like. Or maybe somebody like Bellamy. In fact, thats what I'd like to see. Gabby, Fonz, Carroll, Bellamy and Weimann as a fifth choice.

That gives us most options covered. The height and power of Carroll, the pace and power of Gabby, the pace and skill of Delfouneso and the raw aggression, pace and skill of Bellamy. You could put any two of them together. Gabby and Bellamy would be senior with two wonderful prospects snapping at their heels and Weimann as a wild card who could get the odd appearance to aid his development.

I do like the look of Carroll but it would also be nice to see The Fonz getting more of a run out.  Im suprised he has not figured more, especially with the shite Heskey has been providing.

On paper that line-up does sound appealing but if we're in the Champions League it is alarmingly inexperienced.  In fact it's quite inexperienced for the Premier League.
