Had we done the same business Blose have done so far there would ruptions on here about signing a third or fourth choice Man Utd keeper and a guy who has played a handful of games in the last three years, scoring 5 goals.

yeah what do we want with a young  6' 8" striker who scored 13 goals in 19 games in Spain, Mons prefers 33 year old strikers who don't score, far better. Who needs one of the best potential young keepers around, when there are 40 year old experienced guys like Friedel to snap up. No sense in that is there.

Its far better to be 2 weeks into the season, out of Europe with untried kids and injured players sitting in the stands and no viable defence before you buy players, far more sensible.

Could we see the post you would have made had we signed him please?

Yeah - a 29 year old 6'8" striker would surely have shut up all the MON critics!

Green is no better than Guzan and as such would have been a pointless signing.

Typical, MON's obsession with massively tall strikers means we're going to be lumping it aimlessly at Zigic.

I can think of plenty of things to criticise MON for, but not signing someone who has just been snapped up by Blues is down there with "looks a bit funny with his tracky bottoms tucked into his socks" and "too much like Woody Allen" on the list.

Why? We need two keepers, not just one, and this will surely be Friedel's last season as no. 1.

Green is better than Guzan but I think we should be looking at getting someone in who is better than Friedel, not competing with Guzan - who I would send out on loan.

Kruszcak is underrated but hasn't played enough to warrant a first-team spot at Villa, Man City won't let hart go after the Shay Given injury, Howard is James esque and not needed as he isn't better than Friedel, Robinson is regaining his status at Blackburn and is worthy of consideration, but based on what's around I may be tempted to give Friedel another season and then look again next year. On the other hand as Green is available this summer, then we could sign him and see how it goes. If no better than sell next summer.

How long is Given out for? Hart will not want to go back to being a #2 having had an impressive season last year as a #1.

At a time when cash is expected to be tight a new keeper is way down on our list of priorities as we have one of the best around already in Freidel and Guzan is an adequate back up.

True, but not the point I was making. However, if an England goalkeeper was to become available it may be less than prudent than to say no based on the fact that we have decent keepers there now. Especially as one has only a year, two at best, left in him.

So we buy one next year then!

With money (supposedly) being tight this summer, a keeper is not our priority.

Wolves are spending £7.5m on Steven Fletcher from Burnley.

£7.5m! That is crazy money. How much would it cost for a decent striker?

Not sure but I reckon Hart will start the season as number one and stay there.

In which case, would be more than happy to take Given off their hands next year!

Anyone know if MON has buggered off for his annual 4 week stay in a chalet in Rhyl yet? We haven't had the usual "Nothing will happen till the players are back from holiday/world cup is finished" statements yet either. Is that bird who handles the new players' arrangments on 24 hour alert by the phone again? I really need to know.

Because of Cut-backs she only does that job during the day. In the evening she goes 'web-camming' with Ash!

Higher priorities, sure. But the Friedel situation has to be addressed at some point and if there's a good 'keeper available this summer we should make a move. Green might not be available in a year. Myhill's just been relegated with cash-strapped Hull.
