I don't think he'd be an automatic first choice.

I wouldn't mind Podolski, but he's really not done the business at club level for one reason or another, and currently resides at a bog standard Bundesliga side. His international record is brilliant though.

But two scary words come to mind on that front...Milan and Baros!

Though I think Podolski has far more to his game, and would suit the Premiership more. But he's got the ability to come deep and instigate play, and can either play wide or up top. He was unlucky at Bayern to be fair, because he never got a decent run at it because of the strikers in front of him.

Forlan would be ideal though. Like someone said, a finisher would be key. Not only that, Forlans a brilliant footballer who's link up play is also very good. But with that he's got plenty of movement and a great engine and always manages to be in the right place at the right time in the Pen area, even if he's started off a move.

Express & Star.

Stoke are set to test the uncertainty regarding England striker Emile Heskey’s future at Villa with a £2million bid.

Hand. Snatch. Off.

Wouldn't say any of those were surprising players for MON to buy.  Maybe Carew due to his origins

Is there such a thing as a surprise signing then? for any manager?

Spot on. Carew is never in the box enough for the crosses coming in, and Gabby has some of the worst movement in the league, rarely getting across his man. When he does move, he gets chances, so I would blame the poor cross completion more on the forwards than the wingers. We just don't attack the ball in the right areas in the box.

You'd have to say that someone like Kevin Davies would thrive at Villa then.

I hope this isn't true because if so, the squad is in danger of becoming like Dad's Army.  Plus it's a same old, same old midfield option.

I would say Ginola came as close as anyone to that particular mantel.

I think Parker would be a good addition and he's only 29. I agree though that overall we should be looking at younger players. If we should Jimmy for £30 million + Ireland(which I don't think is unbelievable, due to Citeh's exceptional wealth) and we added Parker, that would be good.
