when can we actually buy players?

obviously after the MON/RL meeting first but when does the transfer window start?

From now in theory. But I would expect a lot of it will wait until after the World Cup now apart from the odd gamble from clubs who can afford whatever the cost and are not worried about massive injuries being picked up.

Reo-Coker and Sidwell are better than Carrick? And I thought I had heard everything there is to hear on H and V. That is truly one remarkable assertion...

Have to agree, made me raise one eyebrow in a Roger Moore kind of way

Sevilla and Aston Villa are monitoring Liverpool midfielder Yossi Benayoun, who could leave Anfield this summer.

Yes please.

Yossi would do nicely.

His skill and work rate has always impressed me.

I'm amazed Villarreal isn't interested too.

Benayoun would be a great signing at the right price.

Reo Coker would be more use to us than Carrick. Sidwell is no use to man nor beast at the moment.

Benayoun is more like it. I hope we can do a bit better but he'd be a very good addition to the squad.

I disagree. He would be of some nominal use sat on a continually rotating kiddies' roundabout at the top of a lighthouse.

Bale could'nt outrun Campbell, so no shame in Rodagella not out sprinting him.A goalscorer Rodagella, not sure though.

Benayoun, Ireland at the right price.....£5/6m each, then yes please.

Hargreaves would'nt be a bad shout either, and how about a return for Steve Davis?

You'd never get Ireland for £5m/£6m, probably not Benayoun either.

Hargreaves fit and firing would be ideal but who knows how he'll be after his injuries. Davis is not the standard we need. He wasnt a few years ago and its even more true now.

Bit harsh on Davis I think.  He was our player of the season wasn't he, playing next to the very limited McCann.  I'm not saying that I'd want him back, just that he was pretty good for us, and could conceivably have improved over the years.  And of course, he'd be more use than Sidwell.

He might have improved but I cant see that he's improved enough. McCann was very limited, in fact he was just plain shite, lets face it and he made Davis (or anybody else) look good, but Davis was also limited. He'd switch on in the oppositions box now and then but the game would pass him by most other times. Not great for a central midfielder.

I think our standards have gone up a lot since then. As for Sidwell, even he would probably boss the sweaty league.

I know Wigan are a poorish side, but I just can't imagine a player that only scored 8 goals last season will be the answer to our striking issues.

I'd take Banayoun in a heartbeat - very good player and would allow us to properly rotate with him, Ash, Milner and Downing.

I'd consider a cheeky crack at Walcott as well as getting a playmaker like Ireland, Benayoun or van der Vaart. I dont know if Wenger wants to keep him or not and obviously that has a bearing.

But imagine Walcott and Young either side of Gabby as an option. With maybe Ireland, Milner and Parker behind them?
