Today saw the first person to complete 1000 parkruns.  Twenty-odd years of Saturday morning commitment.  Amazing!

Yeah that's absolutely incredible. That's basically an average of about 47 parks runs a year, every year since he started! Which means he's pretty well never had an injury in that whole time as well. Amazing stuff.

I got to my 100th a couple of weeks ago, now got at least three years until the next big milestone of 250. How many are you on?

28k Peak District Trail “Half” Marathon done today. Plodded round in the heat but got it done. Beautiful views and scenery including Chatsworth House.

My mate did that. It looks absolutely bloody mental, you're all crazy.

Are you on any of these:

Congratulations on your milestone!  On Saturday I completed my 450th, so another year or so until my next T-shirt.  That will have taken fifteen years.  I cannot comprehend doing that all over again to get to a thousand!

Ha yes I am. I’m not going to link to it though as I look absolutely fucked. In my defence it was taken at the end of a 300m steep climb.

Tbf most of the pics are of the 50/100k mentalists looking all young and buff and happy….the bastards.

500 will be a great achievement, well done! I'm playing catch up a bit, as parkrun wasn't a thing on the IOM all the time we lived over there, and I'd genuinely never heard of it until we moved back, and then I got out of running for quite a while.

Think I'm up to about ten half marathons now, and this year I'll be doing my third Major.

Trail/fell runners are just the most insanely fit people. There's a really nice trail festival near me, called the Run Rabbit Festival. In the morning on the Saturday there's a 5 x 5K race, where you basically go out on the hour, every hour for 5 times, obviously. Then in the evening, there's a 10K, and on the Saturday morning a half marathon. The top 6 who do all three events then do a 1 mile race off for a golden carrot prize.

I just did the 10K in the evening, and I was soundly thrashed by several people who'd already done the 25K in the morning. Quite humbling!

Not sure if I ever mentioned my old friend and neighbour from the IOM, Sarah. She set the women's world record for distance run in 24 hours last year. 278K! Ours kids were in the same class, and we'd occasionaly be jogging home from school to the village where we lived at the same time. I think it's fair to say our running journey has diverged a bit since then.

Ha. Some people are able to do the most insane stuff. From recollection don't those 24 hr runners do that on a normal running track as well?

Some of them are yes. I think the event she did was on a 1.5K loop though. I can't get my head round the mental toughness to deal with the sheer tedium of that. And other than the odd toilet break and a minute or two to eat something every now anad again, they literally do run for 24 hours.

Oh yes, watched a YT vid of someone doing it and the sheer tedium would get to me. Its why i prefer the trail running, it's not the tedium for me anyway of road running, no 2 courses the same and you get to see some great parts of the country.  Whens your next half Risso?

I've not got anything official booked in to be honest. I've got a couple of 10Ks (Market Harborough tomorrow, and Rutland Water in a couple of weeks. Then I've got Chicago in October. A mate's asked if I want to do a Derbyshire backyard ultra in September, which I might as final long run practice, and there's a trail-y 24 hour ultra thing at Belvoir Castle also in September called Equinox, which I might do as part of a team. That's a 10K loop, and individuals can try to do at least 10 loops. Or you can run as part of a team, which I'm thinking about, and might do 4 loops, with breaks in the middle.

Other than that I want to do a couple of flattish half marathons, something like Battersea Park, just to get my pacing for October sorted.

How about you?

Nothing at the moment as need to do some serious strength building on top of some maintenance running over the next few months. Trouble is I’ve got a month in the US in September so whilst I’ll be doing a lot of walking not much opportunity for running. Thinking of doing some trail-ish runs 10-21k over the winter but yet to commit. This is the only issue with being retired, fitting the running in around Holidays.
