My replacement pair of Hoka Ones should arrive today after the last lot fell to pieces within 7 weeks.  Touch wood these last longer.

I might give those a go after my Nikes wear out.

Are they a bit more readily available now?  Earlier this year you couldn't get any carbon plate trainers anywhere other than Ebay.

Not being funny Risso but why the hell do you need carbon plate jogging shoes? They really won't help you unless you start doing speed work & sprints, they're probably doing you more harm than good right now.

Best trainers I ever had, these Nike ones.  They're ridiculously good to run in, I noticed a huge difference straight away.  They weigh next to nothing but still give great support, and they're so springy they're like running on trampolines.  I realise I won't quite be challenging the 2 hour marathon record for a while, but I love them!

Thanks for the tips Jon, they've really helped.  I found my old compression socks, so am using those again.  I looked into warm ups, and am doing much more than before.  I've ordered some tape off Amazon but it hasn't arrived.  Went out last night, and got a new PB at 26:05.  So pissed off as I was bang on for a sub 26 min, but had a 10 second delay for some sodding traffic!  Next time, next time!

Did it, 25:41!

Well done Martin, great time.

Good to see you ever improving. I expect under 25 mins within the next year ;D.

I agree, I’ve got a pair of Nike carbon plates but only use them for sprint reps. They’re absolutely amazing if you’re sprinting on them but if not they’re horrendous. They are designed for speed and unless you are up on your toes sprinting the carbon plate isn’t actually doing anything. It’s very likely that the aches and pains you mention Risso are because they aren’t suitable for the running you are doing. It’s worth looking into something that has more support in the midsole and a much bigger landing area on the heel for normal mileage. There isn’t really any heel on the carbon plates and the plates are totally useless if your feet strike on the heel or mid foot

I can only give to my experience with the pair I've got.  The heels on them are enormous, much bigger than any othe pair of trainers I've ever had.  And they're extremely light and well cushioned.

But the heels on the Nike carbon plates are extremely narrow. If you’re landing on the heel of a shoe like that for example it’s an ankle injury waiting to happen

Likewise I can only speak from personal experience but they do wonders for my pace and recovery compared to any other running shoes I’ve owned.
