What running apps do people use?  For the last few years I've used Runtastic, now Adidas Running since being taken over, and it always did what I wanted.  Now though, the voice coach has stopped working, so it doesn't tell me the pace of each 1k for example.  I found this really useful for improving my times, but now without it, I'd have to look at my phone at the right time which is pretty much guess work.  Does Strava offer this facility?

Quality issues aside Richard, how did you get on with them.  I love my Nike carbon plate pair, has made a huge difference to my running.

Have you considered a runnin watch Risso as if you get a fancy one you can stream music from it and it gives alerts at intervals you can set meaning you don’t have to take your phone with you at all. I personally use a Garmin Forerunner but other manufacturers are available.

They were fantastic, which makes it all the more disappointing. Really improved the performance.

I normally look to replace trainers after 500kish and that’s worked out ok for me.

You possibly could go faster but it depends on what you’d be doing that for? Is the question you should be asking yourself, what am I doing this for? If it’s weight loss as I think you originally said then is the goal maintaining or losing more?

On the wider point of knee and shin pain I’d suggest going to a physio to get some advice. However I’ve often found that if I do Strength and Conditioning sessions 1 or 2 times a week and some short Yoga or stretching exercise sessions I avoid those issues. And whilst that works for me it may not suit everyone.

What’s good though Risso is listening to what your body is telling you.

Thanks mate.  I do the running because I actually enjoy it, and to help keep the weight off.  But I like having a challenge and bettering myself as well, so really wanted to get down to a 25 minute time.  I do a fair bit of stretching before each run, but maybe I need to do a bit more.

When you say your shins hurt have you looked at the possibility you've started to get shin splints?
I started to get them about 2 years ago, worth looking at how to use KT tape for yourself and using over the calf compression socks, us old bastards need to look out for each other.

Yes I think it's mild shin splints Jon.  I've had some compression socks for ages, so I dug them out and they do help.  I also read that tightness in your calves can actually affect the front of your legs, so I use one of those plastic rollers now, and that's helped too.  Thanks mate.  Never heard of KT tape but will look into that.

Rolling the fascia helps as well post run but prevention is better than cure.

KT tape is expensive especially the pre cut stuff, I buy unbranded stuff on Amazon and it's just as good. If you buy an uncut roll, when you cut it always round off the edges as it tends to stay on longer.
