I hope Deano never becomes a GM we'd lose half the forum.

That said, you'd think someone with 11,000 posts would like to put something back wouldn't you?

To be fair to him I believe he's currently on the dole.

This isn't difficult lads.

Send me a reminder and I'll probably make another donation. Cut me off without warning and make me jump through hoops to reconnect and I question the value.

Whereas sending an automated PM reminder before removing GM status is?

My issue is that to suddenly have GM status removed without warning is in my opinion rude and inappropriate; it’s not as though I’m difficult to contact is it? My first thought was to wonder if I had been banned.

I have made several donations over the years and have never had any regard as to whether it was 12 months since the previous one. I am more than happy to contribute to the running costs and actually think this website should by now be providing Mac with a "modest" income in addition to covering its running costs. I just question whether it will if you continue treating your “subscribers” in this way.

I’ll now go and find a Paypal account, request a password, register a new card and make a donation, not forgetting to include my username in the comments and hope that someone at some point will reinstate my GM status.

Then in a month or so when the bank statement lands, I’ll answer the inevitable question from my darling wife of “Oi you! What the fcuk is Heroes and Villains dot com?”. I can't wait to explain to her the value of Golden Muppetry.

Is there any way to disguise the payment as Big Baps and Flaps dot com?

Thanks for your comment and I appreciate your sentiments. The GM status is controlled by Admins, not Mods. I will pass your views on to Martin who holds information such as this in his database.

I'm sorry if you found it "rude and inappropriate" that would never be my intention. I can't automatically PM GM's a reminder, and too many users change email addresses, so contacting them that way is no use. There is a list in the GM forum (which l try to up date).

Neither Mac, I or anyone else has any income off the forum "modest" or otherwise. As stated in the donate pages, any monies remaining at the end of the year would be carried over

I’ll now go and find a Paypal account, request a password, register a new card and make a donation, not forgetting to include my username in the comments and hope that someone at some point will reinstate my GM status.

(a)You don't need a PayPal account to pay by card (b)you don't have to include your username, it just helps especially if the email address you use was different to the one regisetered with the forum and (c)I normally log GM status within minutes or at most a couple of hours, it only takes longer if users don't answer emails or l am not able to access a computer.

Then in a month or so when the bank statement lands, I’ll answer the inevitable question from my darling wife of “Oi you! What the fcuk is Heroes and Villains dot com?”. I can't wait to explain to her the value of Golden Muppetry.

Heroes and Villains dot com is line dancing or similar so you should be okay there ;-)

Is there any way to disguise the payment as Big Baps and Flaps dot com?

I could, but how many would remember who they paid, and start claiming back off PayPal?

Regards

Martin

It's not my (or anyone else's) intention to make money from this website.  None of us have the time to go out and negotiate advertising deals. If we plastered the site with ads we would probably still struggle to make ends meet.

We ask for a donation because that gives you a vested interest in the site and it's nice to know that all the hard work put in by the mods and admin is appreciated.

If you want to help us without any pain..... see that amazon ad?  Please use it next time you want to buy something from Amazon.

Oh and I'd like to say thank you to the 11 people (out of 1 million) last week who clicked on the Google ads.

Just sent my donation Martin, as I noticed the Forum Index was a bit shorter than usual!

Is there anywhere you can look to see when your last donation expires, for next time?

Just to be entirely clear. I appreciate the value of this website, always have done and I'll continue to donate.

But I have loads of business and personal subscriptions that I pay for and every single one of them will send me a reminder when a renewal is due and before my subscription is cancelled, that's all I was asking for. I guess the best thing for me to do is to make more regular smaller payments so that there is less chance of me not making a payment for a 12 month period.
