Ken Griffey Jr retires

Happy trails to one of the greatest players of them all.

This season has not been a good one for Junior. He should have bowed out at the end of last year.

Sure-fire first ballot Hall of Famer.

Incredibly, there should have been another "Perfect Game" yesterday but the umpire mistakenly called the last batter safe at First Base

I feel for everyone involved. Joyce (the ump) seems more upset than Galarraga! He definitely should have gotten the Perfect-o but I guess Selig isn't going to overturn it.

Here is a vid of Joyce crying as Galarraga hands him the starting line-up:

All credit to Joyce and Galarraga for the way they've conducted themselves since this happened.

Can you imagine the uproar if Joe West had made the blown call ?

Bud can't change the ruling. That would be too much of a precedent to set. However, hopefully this event will help break down his anti-replay stance.

I saw the footage of this today and it is an awful call by Joyce, I have to say though the reaction of Galarraga was amazing just a rye smile at the decision. Some of our footballer should look at that.

A perfect game is such a special thing and to have it denied by a umpire on the last out with such a bad call is shocking. To just smile and walk away puts into perspective a linesman getting a mouthfull for getting an offside wrong.

I'm sure there must have been games when Rusty Kuntz was coaching, Randy "Big Unit" Johnson pitching and Chuck Knoblauch batting (and yes, its pronounced "knob lock")

I was just updating my list of baseball games attended (now up to 213) and since the final four games I saw last season were KC @ Sox, that means I've now seen your Royals eight games in a row.

I'll be seeing the Royals again next month, for two games against the Chicago White Sox

At some point I will make it to Kansas.

But for now I'll settle with being in Oz.

When arranging my own Red Sox trips its easier to get tickets to see them against crap (or less well supported) teams, whether home or away.

In the last couple of years I've seen them away at Oakland, Baltimore, Toronto and Minnesota and at home against Seattle, Oakland and KC (twice).

Watching Sox v Yanks games is an experience but tickets can be expensive and in short supply.

If I want to go to a major Sox home game, I do have a contact who can get me a ticket, but I'd have to pay way over face value.
