Did any of our US H&V'ers watch the team intros last night ?

It looked to me that Willie Mays completely blanked Josh Hamilton and turned away from him.

No, but I did catch the back end of the game. i think it was about 10.30pm here when I tuned it. It was about the 7th inning. I finally switch the game off at 1.30am

Today I am feeling rather :smt015

Manny gets jaywalking lecture

I was also yelled at by a Seattle cop a few years ago for jaywalking.

I was wearing a Villa shirt at the time, so when the copy yelled out "Hey, Boateng" there wasn't much doubt it was me he was after.

I just kept on going and luckily the cop didn't follow.

Well I watched quite a bit of the Red Sox against the Yankees last night - Yankees won 1-0  ](*,)

Marked contrast to the other game which was on between the Cleveland Indians and the Los Angeles Angels, which was 14-10 last time I looked!!

Ya what ?

Angels beat O's 6-5 and Indians beat Twins 5-4

Meanwhile back to the main event............ it looks like Joba's conversion to a starting pitcher might be beginning to pay off. However, if Mariano has to keep getting multi-inning saves, the Yanks will suffer long term.

We must also remember that both teams are still behind the mighty Tampa Bay Rays

I'm going to see the San Francisco Giants play the Arizona Diamondbacks in not too many weeks.

Does someone clever want to educate me slightly on what sort of thing I can expect? Status, history, quality - that kind of thing.

Preferably with easy-to-understand football based similes.

Many thanks.

I am in Boston in September and me and missus would like to go to a game (we usually partake whilst in the states).

The Red Sox are at home to the Tampa Bay whatever they are calleds... I can't get tickets through the official site it just says none available.

Can any of you folks recommend how to get some ticks? Last time when in Seattle we used the Conceirge at the hotel but that way we ended up paying about £50 a seat (mind you it was against the yankees).

Any help gratefully received. Ta.

Giants

Since they moved to San Francisco from New York 50 years ago they haven't won a World Series. However, they have had two of the games best players in that time in Willie Mays  and Barry Bonds.

If you see one of the outfielders make a spectacular catch, saying something like "yes he's good but he's no Willie Mays", should bring approving nods from any Giants fans in earshot.

As for Barry Bonds............ try not to mention him !!

The Giants are one the the worst teams around at the moment. A group of aging veterans and a few youngsters without too much promise. The owners/management relied on Barry Bonds for too many years without planning for the future. Now that he's gone the Giants are buggered.

However, keep a close eye on shortstop Omar Vizquel if he plays. The guy might be past forty and no longer a great hitter but he's one of the best fielders ever to play the game.

D'Backs

As for the D'Backs, they should be doing better than they are.

They have two of the best pitchers in the sport in Brandon Webb and Dan Haren. As mentioned above they also have Randy "Big Unit" Johnson. He may not be the pitcher that he used to be but he's still 6'10'' of entertaining bad attitude.

Batting wise the D'Backs have been struggling but they do have a few young stars such as Stephen Drew and Chris Young.

The D'Backs were only formed a decade ago so they haven't much history as such. They did however win the 2001 World Series defeating the New York Yankees.

Is it one of the games 8>10 Sep in San Fran that you'll be attending ?

If you are coming to the desert let me know.I am sure that we could arrange a swift half before the game.
If you are going to San Fran you will enjoy it,the new ballpark is a lot better than candlestick.
Don't know if Mad Dog in the Fog in SF is still run by a Villa fan,it was when I lived up there.

It's the San Fran game in mid-September that I'll be over for I'm afraid.

Many thanks to everybody (UK Redsox in particular) for the education. I'll try and memorise as much of it as possible.
