I imagine the Giants - Jets rivalry is a bit like the Villa - Blues rivalry.

Giants are so much better than the Jets throughout history, as to hardly care about them.

Mind you, I often think of Jets as being like Tottenham. Every year they bang on to the media about how they're going to do really well and win the Superbowl and every year they're crap.

Truth is though it's not like we don't care. On their hopefully imminent slide down the divisions I still want them to lose every week. I'm interested in whether the different way the leagues are organised leads to less animosity between potential local rivals. In theory we could still be playing Blues regularly but they're too shite to keep their end of the bargain so to speak. The Giants and the Jets are permanently separated and I'm sure have far more dislike for the Cowboys/Eagles/Redskins or Bills/Patriots/Dolphins than each other. Of course if anyone does go down the route of supporting both it's a potential nightmare situation in the Superbowl. Or a win-win depending which way you look at it.

NB I realise it's different in baseball because everyone should and does hate the Yankees.

It must grate with the Jets fans that the Giants have won 8 Championships to their 1, but not playing each other very often probably means they don't dislike each other like most local rivals would. The Patriots are very dislikeable so imagine the Jets hate them the most? And everybody hates the Cowboys, so would think the Giants hate them and the Eagles the most.

Wikipedia says this of the rivalry:-

The New York Jets previously maintained a high tension rivalry against their in-town counterparts, the New York Giants, that has since diminished due to the infrequency with which the teams meet in the regular season.[58] The pinnacle of the rivalry came on August 17, 1969 when both the Jets and Giants met for the first time, in a preseason game which was viewed as a "turf war" by both opponents.[58] The Giants, considered a mediocre team at the time, were regarded as underdogs and were under much scrutiny by the media and their fans.[58] Ultimately, the Jets bested their rival 37–14, this would result in the firing of Giants coach Allie Sherman.[58]

The Jets met the Giants in 1988 during the final game of the regular season.[59] The Jets, with a 7–7–1 record, had little to lose as their hopes for playoff contention had vanished.[59] The Giants, however, were contending for a playoff spot and a victory would have secured their spot and their division title.[59] Although the six point favorites,[59] the Giants were unable to overcome the Jets defense which saw the Jets sack quarterback Phil Simms eight times.[60] With the Jets' victory and victories by the Rams and Eagles, the Giants were eliminated from playoff contention and the Jets gained what many considered respect.[60][61]

In spite of the big sibling rivalry that has resulted in trash talk between the players, both teams have formed an unexpected and consequently strong partnership sharing Giants Stadium for twenty six years and MetLife Stadium, a venture in which both teams own a fifty per cent share of the stadium.[42][58][62] The rivalry regained much of its tension in the 2011 NFL season when the Jets and Giants met in Week 16. Both teams needed a victory to keep their playoffs hope alive and there was significant trash talk between Rex Ryan and his players and many of the Giants in the weeks leading up to the game. Ryan and Giants running back Brandon Jacobs reportedly came close to blows after the game, a 29–14 win by the Giants

I will admit to letting out a shriek that sounded like that of a woman when Rodgers threw a TD pass with 3 seconds left on the clock to turn a L into a W.

I could see it coming. They're lucky as Hell to have had twenty years of Favre then fall straight into a QB who is, IMO, much better!

The two US sports stars that I've always thought were overrated were Brett Favre and Nolan Ryan.

Some of the kicking in the NFL this year has been terrible.

Da Bears continue the march to 8-8 mediocrity....

Enjoyed the Browns destroying the Steelers, they look really poor this year.

Surprised that the Cowboys have been so good, I had them down for 4th spot in the NFC East at the start of the season.

Amusingly most of it has been for the Detroit Lions.
