She didn't do very well. She only managed to kick 19 yards. In fairness, she was injured.

I don't think even the Jets will be taking a punt (pun intended) on her.

My Aussie cousin has a trail next week in Miami as part of the Michael Husted Kicking School. Apparently he's an excellent 'punter' and his coaches have put him forward to see if any NFL teams are interested. Strange thing is, he's never played that much American Football. Can anybody explain?

If you're a punter then you just kick the ball out of your hands, as in Rugby League where on the 6th down you'd usually kick to the opposition. You're usually aiming to kick it so it either goes out of bounds at the sidelines, or be caught far back, preferrably in the 20 yard zone.

You don't really need to play in American Football for this, as you won't usually be touched by the opposition, or be asked to run or throw the ball yourself.

So your 'job' is purely to hoof the ball as far as you can a couple of times a match?

Has Dunne applied?

Oh and there are already former Aussie Rules players in the NFL I think. Also, Clive Allen was a Punter in the 1980s I think.

Clive Allen played for the London Monarchs as a Kicker (rather than a Punter).

John Smith and later Mick Luckhurst were British kickers in the NFL. John Smith turned down a pro-soccer contract to try the NFL

If only one or two people actually kick the thing, why is it called football?
Surely handegg would be better?

Thanks, chaps.

I've never really taken an interest in American football, too much of a girls game if you ask me.

As you were.

Someone cleverer than me said, possibly on this thread, that it is because it is played standing on your feet rather than on a horse

Is there a popcorn emoticon for this.
Actually I don''t think anyone here cares that much for it to become a full debate

Have you seen the amount of food on sale at most American sports? He'd never make it as far as the field.

James Harrison releasd by the Steelers over the weekend.   A great player, but probably past his prime now.

Also, his style wasn't suited to the new rules regarding dangerous hits/tackles.
