Still no news if he is back weekend. I would imagine its unlikely he is back annoyingly.

We don't usually hear anything until Smithy's press conference anyway.

Or during.

If we continue with the 3-5-2, a fully fit Leon Bailey, playing a free role off Watkins/Ings, could be lethal.

I hope we don't but if we stick with the 3 at the back I'd prefer us to really go for it and pick him instead of Targett from the start, I'd be doing everything I can to keep the midfield as the Dm and 2CM that has seen Luiz, McGinn, Ramsey and Sanson all look like they can be big players for us in a push for the top 8, by putting a 10 in there you create the same balance issues as we've had in the 4231 that just doesn't look right.

And if we do what you suggest, it's easy enough to switch to a back 4 without having to make a sub.

Definitely.  I don't see him starting for a while but if we can get 30mins out of him it would be good.

He won't be back. He's a Villa player. We will see him for about fifteen minutes in December, two of which will be spent hobbling off.

With a different injury.

My guess, a severe paper cut.

I know it worked v Everton but I don't think Bailey at LWB will work against many teams. He didn't look the type to be running back towards his own goal that often and other teams will exploit that.

A midfield three is a must for us, think Smith has kind of stumbled on that somewhat but Luiz and McGinn look so much better in a 3. Ramsey, Sanson and Nakamba competing for the last spot.

Likely Bailey, Watkins and Traore/Buendia as the front 3 ahead of them. 433 might not suit Ings and Buendia but the hard decisions on selection are coming soon for Smith.

Agreed, that's why my post started with "I hope we don't".

I think there are a few ways to fit Ingas and Buendia into a 3 where they'd be effective but Bailey being fit to start is a key part of them working because his pace and dribbling gives us options to stretch teams. A liverpool style front 3 with the wide 2 playing higher up the pitch and the central player being more of a link-up play maker works well with watkins, bailey, traore, archer and JPB as the wide players and ings, buendia and possibly either of the chuk brothers in the central role.

Bailey hasn't signed for us to be a wing back.

Just play him off Watkins if we stick with 3-5-2 (Ings hasn't scored since August 21st after all) or just switch to 4-3-3 and play him on the right.

No he hasn't but he came on for a wing back and just played as a winger, which is what I'm really suggesting.

It's probably worth trying if we're just playing a park the bus type game v a Burnley but I wouldn't risk it v say Wolves given they've had some really good counter attack moves this season with likes of Adama and Trincao.

Trying to remember the chain of events v Everton but basically they took off Rondon so they didn't really have a focal point upfront and couldn't hold the ball and they also gave up with the two quick goals so just think it's a different situation to starting game v dangerous counter attack team as the weekend will be (hopefully Leon can be on the bench and we have another excellent cameo and then he starts at Arsenal).

Just hope it's not a case of going through the season with DS not really wanting to drop Ings due to the pricetag. He dosen't really look like scoring currently and front 3 of say Bailey-Watkins-Traore would be very exciting to watch and potential nightmare for defences.
