Winning games is always good. I know when we lose these cup games we make any number of excuses why and tell ourselves it's not a priority and so on but there's not much better than seeing a Villa team comfortably swatting a team aside. No matter who's in our team or in theirs.

keep Guilbert , incase Trez and El Ghazi carry on looking poor , you could bring Freddie on at RB and push Matty on the wing for 25/30 mins as he looks to have a great final ball on him . in fact he was on the left wing against us in the 5 5 draw and scored .

Bring on Fulham

Martinez

Cash
Konsa
Mings
Targett

Luiz
Hourihane
Mcginn

Traore
Watkins
Grealish

Subs:

Steer
Elmo
Hause (although in the highlights he again pissed about with ball and lost it)
Trez
Davis
Taylor

I'd replace one of the defenders on the bench with Ramsey.

Yes, at this stage Ramsey should at least be on the bench.

Watching the reserves play in the same style as the first team is another small step forward. We've lost enough similar games not to play down such an achievement.

It just feels like things are starting to come together. There's a plan and it appears to be working.

Ha!

I think he was predicting the last spot would already be filled with an as yet unannounced new signing....

I like Elmo also; dependable and have good crosses. Probably not streets ahead though. Did nothing wrong as stand in CB as i remember. Lacking some pace but have good posisional sense

I don't mind Elmo, I had question marks over his defending when he joined but he's improved since he's bene here, far fewer silly mistakes now. However he's 33, if we're moving on one of the right backs I don't think he offers anything more than Guilbert who is 7-8 years younger and coming towards his prime rather than at the end of it. If it's a financial decision then that's fair enough I guess but in terms of squad development I'd rather keep Freddie.

That said I would be against keeping both for a year and having Elmo as an older head covering 3-4 different positions.
