A pretty unfamiliar U18 team (loads of players that could've been weren't involved) won 2-1 against Leicester earlier to start their season with a win.

There was an article in The Athletic about how we've transformed our youth team set-up. I was interested in reading it but I'm not a subscriber.

Yeah I wanted to read this too, but am too stingy to pay for it. Plus its by Gregg Evans so its bound to be some hatchet job about us kidnapping their staff and forcing them to leave Albion and work for us for better money.

I see George Boateng has returned to Villa as a coach for the u-23's.  Shame he can't still play.  I thought he'd been back a while but there is a news item on Sky Sports News.

The story is about him being moved up to working with the Under 23's. He's been a coach for the past year working with younger age groups.

He was with the U18s last season but has moved up to the U23s. There's a nice clip from an interview with him on the club Twitter, I guess the full interview will be on the website.

And yes, wouldn't a George Boateng in his prime fill that extra defensive/holding midfielder position we've been talking about very nicely!

Righto, thanks.  I had a feeling that he had been there a while.

U23s playing away to the baggies right now.

Just gone 1-0 behind. Some interesting names missing from the team though, Jacob Ramsey, Barry and Kesler all absent so I suspect they may be involved tomorrow.

Can't see a line-up.

I think Ramsey will be involved tomorrow, probably on the bench.

Is Barry involved with the U23's or the U18's?

Kesler's an interesting one. If he's involved tomorrow you have to wonder whether Guibert is going to be sold.

Kesler is nowhere near first team standard.

Maybe not but missed U18 on Sat and U23 today and has been around the first team squad a fair bit.
