You’ve missed off Sid. I’m assuming it was an error.

My memories of him were too vague tbh.

If you're basing it on only who you've seen, and started watching in 1989, missing off Sid is reasonable. He was still very good them, but not at his absolute peak.

My only real memory of him was from the earliest Villa match I remember watching on tv when we beat Everton 6-2. I didn’t start going to the games until 1991. Platt on the other hand was my favourite footballer as a small child (even after he left us). Until I met him in the mid-nineties and he was a c*nt!

I can't say I'm surprised, sadly. Always liked him, he seems to be an arrogant tossed that has only since acknowledged the existence of Aston Villa when he has been touting himself for the manager's job.

I’ve heard the stories of him returning from italia 90 with a big ego but not sure it was just down to that. I met him at a signing and he didn’t look up and barely acknowledged my offer of a handshake. I wouldn’t mind but I was only about 10 at the time.

I have tried this a few times but it's too hard. I can only really do it by decade; 90s, 00s, 2010s. I just feel the game was so different in each decade that a player who was top draw in the 90s probably wouldn't be suited in today's game etc.

For example, Yorke was world class at a time when teams (Villa and utd) played with two strikers. How would he fare as a lone striker in the formations of today? Would he have to be played in a sort of AM role off a player like Benteke? Gareth Barry was at his best for us as a wide left midfielder, a position that's more or less redundant today. So, instead of putting my players in a formation, here is my all-time 1-11 since 1989:

Bosnich

Mellberg
McGrath
Laursen
Staunton

Milner
Townsend
Platt
Barry

Yorke
Benteke

Subs
Friedal
Southgate
Taylor
Merson
Young
Saunders
Grealish

Would like to have included Ehiogu, Savo, Dalian, Tony Daley, Angel,Richardson and Mark Delaney but it wasn't possible.

I reckon he would have done very well, he was a clever footballer and used space and other peoples runs well, also very good at holding a ball into feet as he matured.

I would never have said he’d make it after seeing him the first couple of times.

Yorke and Benteke with Grealish in behind would be nightmare to defend, Yorke's movement off the ball was exceptional and Grealish and Benteke are like magents for defenders. I honestly think all at their best, with a functional midfield in behind, sees Yorke scoring 30+ for the season.

That would be some forward line if you had 3 absolute machines behind them.
