So disappointing after how well we played and after watching the penalty back, its even a bit more gutting. We didn't deserve that and neither did they.

Some miss from Luiz...

Reina is entitled to very pissed off with his defence for not reacting to the rebound

He does, but if a penalty is saved and the ball comes back out fairly straight the guy taking it is always favourite.  I think Fred could maybe have got there had he not hesitated, but it would have been a lunge and possibly another pen.

The taker is going to get there first more often than not as the rules on encroachment of been tightened up , in the old days as soon as Son runs up defenders would have been inside the box ready for a save now if they do that it's a retake.

On the Pen I see Smith is complaining about that , if that was Jack in box taken down by Aurier like that Smith would say pen.He took the man before the ball it was a pen and he should of stayed on his feet longer.

Well said.
Totally agree. It’s annoying to lose like that but there’s still plenty of points to fight for.

I don't think the argument is that he technically took the man before the ball (just), I think that it's because in the case of Pens (unlike offside), VAR should only overrule in the case of a clear and obvious error on the part of the ref. And it wasn't clear and obvious (the fact they took so long looking at it indicates that, as does the player himself not really appealing).

With offside, the VAR decision is a binary one - it's offside or it isn't, even by a fraction of an inch.  With pens, they should only overrule if the mistake is clear and obvious - indicating that mistakes are acceptable, just not the clear and obvious ones.

Absolutely going down and deservedly so.

You can’t throw away points like that, absolutely not good enough. Again.

This, unfortunately.

When it comes to them 'small margins': we perpetually fuck it up (on the countless occasions that we haven't already capitulated). Game management?! Don't make me laff. Going down. Fact.

Its not a fact though is it, we have frustratingly thrown away points all season, we have continuously shown poor game management most of the season and yet the only fact is that after all that we are still out of the relegation zone.

But what happened, errrr, happened. Playing well is all well & good: but it's those critical moments when we don't that cost us - time & time again. Did it actually surprise you that we failed to hold on for a point in the very last minute of the match? It saddens me to say that I thought it was all-too-predictable.

I dont think he had a great game, whichever way you look at it he gave away the penalty and cost us a draw at the end.

His apparent lack of pace is a problem in a back three.  It happened a few times times today where the back three were spread quite wide and they played balls in the spaces between, leaving Engels in a foot race with Son and their other forwards and he had to make a number of last ditch challenges, one of which led to the penalty.

It isn’t so much of an issue in a 4-4-2 as there tends to be more cover.

Hardly, considering the last two home games where we have won in the very last minute of the match? In fact, our record for last minute winners is better than defeats is it not - especially when you consider the injury time winners we have conceded this season are to last season’s Champions League finalists.

Spin it any which way you want to bab. We're screwed (IMO)- unless we get TM & SJM back soon; & find a way to grind out a result or three in the next 12 games. Are there 3 sides in the league that look like the'll be gone before us? Not for me as it stands...

I agree, thought he was poor and his lack of pace badly exposed, though obviously a cracking header for the goal. 4 at the back suits him better. I still think overall we are better with 3 at the back, but one of those three has to be Mings.

I agree that Engels had a decent game overall but the total brain fart on his mistake, I am at a loss to explain what he was attempting and can only put it down to tiredness.

Hause is far more of a liability.

Of course what happend, err happend, but bar the fuck up at the end, we get a deserved point out of that. That's said, we should have finished them off in the first half.

As it stands..... The 3 that are below us perhaps?

Did you have a few drinks at the match by any chance?

Keep clinging on to them stats, Pat. We're clingin' on for grim death & failing to manage a game that we should've got something out of. Forgive me for not being filled with hope & optimism this evening.
