DS: "It’s a huge amount, yeah. People keep talking about we can’t beat the top teams. It’s not rocket science. You play the teams in & around you, they’re the type of games you’re meant to win & compete in

Found this comment appalling from Smith if he thinks just beating those teams around us is enough then he is deluded. One of the trademarks of teams that stay up after a relegation fight is the ability to get points from teams near the top when they are not supposed too

Well it’s a bad attitude and how have we got on against Bournemouth.

Granted it was a short cameo but Baston looked an utter carthorse when he came on.
I didn’t understand that change, Samatta was still keeping their centre-backs occupied right up to the point he was substituted. Seems optimistic to expect Baston be as effective coming on for his debut at that stage of the game. Then again, maybe Samatta was knackered.

We’re very similar to Norwich. Play decent football on our day, frequently plucky losers, carried by a few good players, fatally lacking in football smarts, bottled too many big games.

Absolutely gutted, going forward one of our best displays for a while, but defensively we were a shambles. In the 2nd half Spurs almost looked like scoring every time they attacked, a superb display by Reina kept us in the match, the good news is Tyrone will be back for Southampton.

Pluses obviously Reina, Samatta, why was he taken off?, El Ghazi and thought Nakamba made a difference, when he come on. Jack as always top drawer, but still think he should be playing down the middle, his talents are wasted out wide.

How could you make such a statement publicly and be expected to motivate a locker room?

Can’t imagine many other managers at this end of the table coming out with that bilge.

From the interview, I find it absurd he actually wanted to press high up the pitch.

Why do that against a team like Spurs?

Wounder. Son is quality. Luiz puts that one back across the keeper, game over.

Going by that the only home game he expects to win in the run in will be Palace at home (perhaps Sheffield United if they drop off for a few weeks). It's not going to be enough. Newcastle currently 0-0 at Arsenal and beaten Spurs, Chelsea and Man. United. They're mid table, we're not.

Yeah daft. Spurs have bags of pace in their team. Also playing Drinkwater in a 2 man midfield is just bonkers.

And that’s how the penalty came. Engels had too much ground to cover and not enough pace.

Nothing has changed, we provide teams with lots of opportunities to score and they do.
There is nothing positive to take from that game, we lost, it’s what we do.
We are heading for Division 2.

Unlucky to lose today.
Great going forward and but for Engels error it would have been a great point.
Always was going to be tough and let’s hope we do enough to survive.

I’d we’d had Samatta all season I think we’d be in much better place.

Totally agree, the Summer recruitment up front was always likely to come back to haunt us. We haven't recovered from losing McGinn's energy in midfield and Drinkwater isn't and never was the solution to this.
Ultimately we concede on average 20 chances to the opposition every game. We won't stay up with that statistic.
