Is it me or does the video by Purslow have a single remarkably coincidental glitch in the middle of Grea-lish which makes it 100% sound like Greed-lish? I can’t help but think a Villa fan in VillaTV has deliberately done that. I presume this has been discussed somewhere?

More likely the subtitles are added automatically, but it's not infallible and makes mistakes. Subtitling a video is a time-consuming job and so I suspect it was automated.

It’s not subtitles, it’s the audio. Right at the v start, 10 seconds in. Listen to it! (It might be one of those things that you hear what you are looking for, though I’m less the type for name calling / not sure I’d even come across that nick name. Don’t think this was £greed btw, drive/greed for success>loyalty sure)
Ah, my mistake. I saw a still of the video earlier with subtitles and it read "Greed....." something. I had this on the mind. You did say it was a sound.

As Mr Shin just said to me on the phone, Purslow had a touch of the Billy Beane about him.

You don’t replace the player, you replace what the player does.

There is a bit in the Moneyball movie where Beane and his team are discussing replacing Jason Giambi, who had recently departed to the New York Yankees if I recall correctly.  I accept that it is a movie so is open to artistic interpretation, but during that part Beane reasons that the Oakland Athletics can't go out and buy a direct replacement as good as Giambi, so they have to "recreate him in the aggregate".

Think baseball lends itself more to stats and data than football does, but I did think about that scene when it looked like Grealish was on his way.  We might not be in a position to replace Grealish with a player as good, but with wise investment of the money we get for him, we could well become a more effective side.

Thought Purslow came across very well, everything he said about the Grealish transfer strategy was completely rational, and clearly they did want to keep him. It's tremendous to know that the club's hierarchy are so clearly of one mind with us, and they have a great knack of when to be private to the point of secrecy, and when to communicate more directly and openly than most boards would even contemplate. Good stuff all round.

My only concern is him saying they've already achieved the replacing-Jack objective with Emi, Bailey and Ings. We're still an attacking midfielder short in my view.

I'm not reading too much into that. I'd expect that business isn't complete for the summer yet. If he tells us, he tells everyone.

We’ve not shown our hand all summer, he’s not going to be declaring we’ve got 100m burning a hole in our pocket now.

Sure, of course, and in any case everything he says makes it clear we wanted those three to play with Grealish in the event of him staying so of course there'll be more. It just all seemed so frank and up front that it gave slight concern.

A lot of positive feedback from media and other clubs' supporters for Purslow following that.

We are looking good to everyone now.

I'm glad Purslow spoke well but what did he actually say? Is there a summary or link somewhere?

If he had sat on the desk to deliver his speech, it could have been a party political broadcast on behalf of the Aston Villa party

He comes across well, lets hope that we have a couple more players coming into the club in the next week?

Purslow isnt a big bag of puff that is clear. Some people talk the talk (fox wyness) while others deliver just like purslow has.

I also like how they gave us a detailed explanation on the whole process. They didnt have to but they did.  Respectful owners and ceo we have. Wouldnt trade them for anyone

Extremely well-handled. I was particularly pleased with the way any mention off that footballer was delivered in factual terms with no hand-wringing or sentimentality. Minimal fuss on Pravda too with a banal reference to the transfer of [that footballer].

The only false note was the excitable div who does the Villa social media posting farewell 'memories' on Facebook and Twitter. WTF? The bloke has just kicked us in the goodies FFS!

One thing I don't get is if they knew he was off from the end of the season, why was he the main person featured in the marketing of season tickets, etc.? This seems out of order.
