I'd put Trezeguets greed higher up the list of reasons to boil my piss than Luiz's miss, was never gonna get a shot on target, the tube.

Spot on i agree with that  whole heartingly

Trez was brutal for that, Luiz breaking into space on the right ahead of him. So selfish.

Luiz did miss a sitter, score that and we go onto win .

Small margins perhaps but we still never really seem in control in most games. The team is poorly organised tactically let's be honest, we get caught on the counter attack constantly.

Not sure why Engels is defended so much, it's not the first time he's been at fault when we've conceded goals either - see Arsenal away, and wasn't it him looking like he was running through deep water trying to catch Vardy in the Leicester debacle?  Compare and contrast to some people vilifying Drinkwater, with one person even trying to blame him for both first half goals.

Reasons might include him being our player, relatively young, in his first season in the league, and still on less money than the 1/2 salary we are paying Drinky.

Engels is 25 so let's not pretend he's a raw youth.  They are all our players while they are in our shirts  and on the pitch.  Not sure why you would think being on loan would be a good reason for it being open season re criticism.    Comparative wages are irrelevant even assuming you know how much each of them is getting from Villa.  I have no idea and don't really care.    None of the above excuses two glaring errors that threw the game away, compared to the vilification Drinkwater is getting.

To be honest, Luiz's miss was every bit as bad as Engels' mistake.

I actually felt sorry for Luiz.
Great contact, keeper just throws himself and gets lucky.
If only he’d taken a leaf out of Peter Withe’s book and shinned it

So doni. Keeper got lucky.i am more angry at trezuget for not putting luiz through and being greddy with that horrible attempt by him.

Rely dont rate trez. Think he is a pretty average player and makes so many poor decisons in games.

When i saw the way that dutch player spurs had used his pace to cause us problems compared to trez who is quick as him shows you the level of the players.

Trez is woeful and i would get rid of him in the summer.

If there is one signing that does deserve incredulity it is Trezeguet.  He's manage to, literally,  scuff a couple of goals but otherwise I am baffled by what he's supposed to be or supposed to offer.

I was just offering some potential reasons why Engels might come in for less criticism relative to Drinky. You obviously don’t think any of them are valid. That’s fine.

Agreed. I remember watching him play for Egypt at the WC in Russia and thinking he looked very limited. I was hoping the relatively low transfer fee indicated that he was young and raw with room for improvement, but now I’m fairly sure that he is just very limited. His goal against Leicester was obviously memorable, but his decision making and technique are generally poor.

It may be that Suso et al were under no allusions about this, but when you are forced to buy virtually a whole squad in one window, there just is a limit to how much money can be spent.

Yeah I don’t see it either. Fir a guy so quick he offers very very little. Doesn’t use his pace to trouble defenders much. He would be the first person I’d sell come summer. Isn’t suited for this league I am afraid.

I wouldn't call his last minute winner in the semi final a scuff.

I watched it back a few days ago, it was a much better goal than I thought at the time.

Same. The absolute pandemomium around me meant a proper view of the goal was impossible. But i went home and watched it about 6 times just to relive the moment!

Back to Engels, I just don't think he has the pace to play in  back three.  Maybe in a deep defending back four where he has cover, but playing in a back three means he will have to cover quite a bit of space and he just doesn't look like he has the legs to do it.  We looked in trouble anytime the ball went in behind him against Spurs.

I agree. Looked so much better in a 4 at the back with mings. Problem is konsa has done well so you cant drop him

Hause i think is pretty shit tbh.  Think engels is a better a than hause overall. If engels had oace he would be a awesome cb

Isn’t Engels actually very quick? I’m sure I’ve seen that stat. Or is that fake news?

There was the stat on here that said he'd been recorded as one of the quickest players in the Premier League.  That doesn't chime with what I watch on the pitch, as he gets outpaced time and time again.

I wouldn't say quick but I also don't think he's as slow as some people are making him out to be. He's been burned by a couple of the quickest players in the league, just like most other centre halves.

On Hause, I don't really get why so many people have decided he's so shit, he needs to work on his distribution, that's fair, but defensively he's pretty solid, he wins most things in the air and he does a lot of work covering behind Targett if the latter gets caught up field (which is expected with how far forward he gets). I have no great complaints about any of our centre backs other than they need to get rid of the lapses in concentration which lead to errors.

Our poor defensive record has 3 main factors:
1- the midfield is far too open and we give too much space to good players in there.
2- we're a mess defending set-pieces, especially corners, we don't have players on the posts and we don't track runners well enough.
3- this is less of an issue since the formation change but we get too narrow at the far post and can be very vulnerable to the cross-field passes.

All 3 are, for me, organisational problems and need to be addressed by coaches, of all the complaints people have about Smith this is the one, for me, that is holding him back from being a very good manager.
