A pre-season friendly. I think 1971 or 72 could be later, I was very young. I might have it wrong but I'm sure Malcolm Beard who we'd signed from Blues played a half for each team. We won 2-1 I think.  I also remember seeing fisticuffs in the Holte from my Witton End position.

The Christmas 1982 debacle at the Sty, we were in the Railway End.  Horrible.

First win was a few months later at VP, Gary Shaw I think.

Was the Christmas one 3-0 to them? 3 is the most I've seen them put past us. Meanwhile Ive seen us put 6 past them, 5 a couple of times and a 4.

Yup, the Boxing Day defeat was 3-0.

I think Gary Shaw's winner a few months later was on Easter Monday. Imagine that fixture being played on a bank holiday now?!

I was at the game when Gary Cahill scored against them and if my memory is correct I think that was played on Easter Sunday

It was. I was dragged sofa shopping the next day. I sat on every settee we looked at, not out of interest but as a result of the crippling hangover I was lugging around.

I went with a mate of mine I worked with, a big Villa fan called Dave (who your Dad would have known) and after the game I ended up drinking with him and his family in his local in Kings Heath. He had two very attractive sisters.

As an indication of my devotion to her, I invited my then fiancee to her first derby match in the 81/82 season at St
Andrews. As a date it wasn't wildly successful - we somehow got trapped on the wasteland behind the Tilton Rd end dodging stones being lobbed at the Villa fans queuing to get in. Later we ended up in one of the usual ambushes on the way back into town and had to leg it.On the bright side Peter Withe won us the game! Years later we inadvertently got caught up in a riot in Paris which she declared to be nothing compared to her day out in Small Heath which remains her go to maximum on the fear barometer.

I wasn't at that game for some reason. Did Ron Saunders actually take his place on the bench that day or was he just watching from the stands? I know he had accepted the job but I can't recall if he had officially taken over in time to take charge of them that day.

Sure it's not this one - which was my first ??

Alan O'Neill signed from Sunderland I think score 2 on his debut. Peter Mac and a Gerry H hat-trick
In number order
Sims
Neal (rep. Lynn)
Winton
Thomson (rep. Crowe)
Dugdale
Saward
MacEwan
O'Neill
Hitchens
Wylie
McParland

Probably the last time I saw Gerry play in the flesh. Still the best no. 9 I ever saw play. That season ?? 42 goals in 56 appeareances.

Oh how I remember that match and yes, two of my all-time heroes: Gerry Hitchens and Peter Mac.

Iirc he signed his contract on the pitch pre kick off Damo!

Not my first game but I was on the Holte End the night we beat them in the Simod Cup 6-0. 9th November 1988. Which happened to be my eighteenth birthday. I still have the club match video somewhere in my house.

First Blues Villa game Feb 1968 at St Andrews, lost 2-1 think Bridges got both, me and my Dad managed to end up in with the Blues fans with my Dad chatting away with them, very different times.
