Talking about a player in the media is the equivalent of bollocking an employee in front of his colleagues.
It’s just something you do not do.

It is all so daft. Whether it truly reflects what is happening behind the scenes or not, Gerrard's decision to change the Captain a few days before the season, drop the previous one and then make so comments which were at best clumsily worded have created an atmosphere of negativity around the club. It is all a huge distraction and poor management, whatever the intention.

He should have made the announcement much earlier in the summer.

Yeah, its a weird one. Mings captained us throughout our pre-season in Australia, and a week later loses the armband and isn't even a vice-captain. However, Diego Carlos is appointed vice captain and we barely know the guy.
I think it stupid we have 1 x Captain, 1 x Club Captain and 2 x Vice Captain.  Why so many.  And also no of them seem to be leaders.

I think Smith had a "Players Committee", which were "senior" players  - which I kind of get, but having nearly half a team as some sort of captain seems strange

Generally that sort of thing doesn't even need to be assigned.

Good teams will have at least three>four candidates for the captaincy. The actual arm band doesn't matter if you have that sort of leadership throughout the group. Think how much the club progressed when we had the likes of Chester, Terry, Jedinak and Hourihane instead of Gabby, Westwood and Micah F Richards.

Fine that SG has his own ideas as to who would make the best captain. But if he'd gone the route of saying Martinez, Mings and McGinn are all leaders and will have a key role pushing the club forward we wouldn't be hearing this sort of noise now.

It's been so specific as well, to one player out of the group.

People are making this out to be Tyrone vs SG....all I can say is that in all his time here Mings may have made errors on the pitch but his behaviour off it has to my knowledge always been impeccable so i doubt very much that he is creating any trouble.....

If he's going to be a bit part player, I'd sell him (ideally to Newcastle for twice his market value).  If I was cynical I'd say that's what Gerrard is trying to do.  The is the last part of his career where we could still make some decent money - again, ideally to reinvest in the squad.

It's one school of thought.

Another school of thought is that a CB @ 29 is approaching the prime years of his career.

Better he spends those with us.

We will be lucky to get £25 million for Tyrone - West Ham may be interested in him on a season loan with an option to buy.

When Steve gets the sack does the next manager have to be told at interview by Purslow that he has to make Tyrone captain and play him every game? , because it will upset Tyrone if he is not the main man at the club or will he be allowed to make his own decisions on who plays and leaves our club?

I have a theory.

I'm at a loss to understand that if Gerrard doesn't fancy him he doesn't just do what the Wolves manager has done, make it known he's available and if a suitable offer comes in then he can leave. But, if he does really well elsewhere, the manager may look a bit of a plum so if he engineers an argument then he can fall back on the "he left because of his attitude, not ability" therefore exonerating the manager of any misjudgement. This could apply at any club to be honest and is a wild theory rather than considered opinion.

Oh dear!
Why don't you have another attempt at editing that!

Quite obvious Gerrard is not struck on Mings, however to sell him before we have a settled defence is just loony tunes time.  However, I thinking it could be Mings looking at a way out what with the forthcoming world cup and his need for game time.

Most of us have wondered if our spine (Martinez aside) is good really enough to push past midtable.  I'm talking about Mings, Luiz/McGinn, Watkins/Ings.  All of them would get a game at other premier league clubs, but not regularly at a 'top 6' club.  So, there it is really.  Whether Gerrard would buy better players is disputable, whether he could make those players into a proper team is (I'm afraid to say at this point as I like the cut of his jib) unlikely.

McGinn leaving would possibly come back to haunt us, but I suppose the bottom line is that I wouldn't be distraught if any of those players left the club tomorrow.

Your perfectly right on paper but look at the likes of Forest, Leicester, Blackburn, Leeds all won the league with bang average players

Well Leeds and Forest was a lifetime ago, and so not comparable at all. In Leciester's case, they probably had the League's three best players that season, in Vardy, Mahrez and Kante, two of whom have gone on to win loads of stuff at Man City and Chelsea.

Why do i have to edit my post again about Tyrone,  I realise that ABBEYFEALEAVFC is the font of all knowledge with regards to Aston Villa, but my opinion is mine and your opinion is yours.

Thanks mate, but I'm not and have never claimed to be.
I like your uses of capitalisation and the word font. Nice touch.
