Agree with Paddy.  Right thing.  Very much the wrong newspaper.  Had he never heard of their Hillsborough fans pissing on dead fans bodies CV?

I have a friend who worked in marketing at the FA when Sven was England manager, and he was always slagging off The Sun, because the modus operandi was always to find something salacious, then 'blackmail' the players into doing an exclusive with them to help position it correctly.  Many times the England 'branding' team had plans altered because suddenly they all had to do something 'exclusive' with The Sun because they had something on one of the squad.

It makes me wonder if they found out something about Tyrone (do with him getting therapy) and this interview is the way he gets to control the narrative?

I think this will be the season when we see players unavailable for selection not only due to physical injuries, but also for mental health reasons.

This may well have always been the case, but I think the difference this season is that we’ll see it stated by coaches in a very transparent way.

 Bigger squads maybe needed.

That sounds depressingly plausible.

I wouldn't be averse to that becoming an accepted part of the game. Think how many times we've watched a player perform well below their normal standard, and think they just had a bad game - what if they'd been struggling mentally, but didn't have the mechanism to report it to the club, at least not without huge stigma attached?  What if another player could have come in for them and performed better on that day?

It is certainly how they operate.  If they find out, for example, that a player is seeing a psychologist then they contact the player and say they have a choice - either give them an exclusive or see them run the story without the chance to 'put their side of the story'.

It's a stitch up as the player (celeb or even Royalty) know they are backed into a corner, though doing an exclusive allows a modest amount of control over what is released.

The tabloids prefer the 'exclusive' option as well as it can be spun that the sportsman or whoever favours them and even if lots of people like to read what is published it is not a good look to have caught out someone struggling with an issue and printing the details without their consent.

Shabby stuff, but stock in trade for tabloid owners and those that do their bidding.

There's definitely been a few Villa players that could've done with mental health being taken seriously.

Yep. V obvious one, and he might be on here, but a Consultant Psychiatrist I worked with occasionally around the time took the time to write to Gregory about Collymore. I don’t remember him mentioning hearing back from him.

I heard a similar story from a NOTW journalist that involved a certain MOTD presenter.

The S*n have got him by the bollocks really. Its either co-operate or be attacked. Mings is astute to know of the reputation of the paper with football fans but I think he probably found himself in an impossible situation. Anyway, the news that MH is having such an impact of top sports stars while the olympics is on, can only help spread the word.

Unless you’re Danny Mills of course. Then it’s just time to “man up”.

Danny Mills seems to have a dislike of  Aston Villa, bordering on hatred
