Maguire always puts me in mind of Kryton from Red Dwarf.

Wonder what Maguire's groinal attachment is like.

I see Mings was named captain for the first half and Young was named captain for the second half of the Walsall friendly.

When you look clumsy against lower division opposition.  And I am not anti Mings, I often defend him.

One moment aside when he gave the ball away, I didn't think he was that bad yesterday.

It's a friendly, who gives a shit? I remember John Terry looking like he had just rolled in from the pub at Shrewsbury away. He was fine as soon as the proper matches start. Friendlies are a chance for younger players, such as Archer, to catch the idea. For the senior pros it's all about getting up to fitness.

I'd rather he gets the mistakes out of the system now than in the season. I think he said something on Twitter about being a bit rusty yesterday, which is probably what that was.

He's got a more experienced defender alongside him and he should be better protected by the midfield this season so there really shouldn't be any excuse once the season gets going.

Respectfully, Mings is an inspiration off the field, and Premier League captains are debating whether to keep taking the knee.
Mings spoke up and made people understand on such a crucial issue, but he is now unable to do so with a captain's voice. That makes me disappointed.

My thoughts simply that I would have kept on Mings if we were not to change though I pushed for Martinez .
I had recommended Martinez as Captain and fitted what Gerrard had said about winners as a Captain.
Him and Ashley Young we could all have said about having a role. And yes so to McGinn but for TM to have no responsibilities as any sort of Captain role , then I think Mings time here as a first choice player is going to be limited over time. Especially when Diego Carlos was being reference as a vice captain.

I think Tyrone will be listened to / get as much of a voice in the media if he decides to speak out on the taking the knee or not, as he did when he was captain. I’m a massive fan of his values, voice and integrity, he’s tweet ‘owning’ - as I believe it’s expressed by young whippersnappers - Priti Patel was a thing of beauty & truth.

Where I think you are right is his voice won’t be directly in the captains what’s app group etc, but I can imagine SJM being very respectful/deferring to our Ty’s position anyway.

Tyrone has been part of bringing pride, and top flight football back to the Villa and so I trust will always be remembered with fondness.

I’d love him to get on the end of a few more successful set pieces. Who knows maybe there could be something in him not having the responsibility in his head. Either way I’m sure he’ll have worked through events with his psychologist.

A leader is a leader.

Just because someone gives you a title it doesn’t make you the leader. And just because you’re not the ‘boss’ it doesn’t mean you can’t be a leader.

Gerrard is doing what he thinks is best for the Villa team. Whether he has got this right or wrong remains to be seen, but the value of a player's media statements don't and shouldn't play a part in his thinking.

Or some anecdote about how he helped a homeless one legged veteran who he was casually chatting to outside his local Costa.

I'm still a massive fan of Mings and I expect him to continue to play a big part in our progress going forward.

His signing was a pivotal moment for us and he's been a superb leader on and off the field.  The word legend is dished out too easily and often, but whatever peoples views right now I think most will look back and appreciate just how much he contributed during a difficult period in our history.
