I was at that one. In the Trinity Road standing enclosure level with the half way line. A grim result in a grim season ending in relegation and exile from the top division for 8 long years.
Attendance was just over 18,000.
The good feel factor of the 60s bypassed Villa.

A week after that Chelsea game we lost 5-0 at Leicester. That season we also lost 6-1 at Stoke, 5-1 at Fulham, 6-2 at Southampton in the league and 6-1 away to Albion in the LC.

6-2 defeat at home followed by a 5-0 away defeat, we then lost at home again this time to Liverpool.  :(
So at this low point, my Dad decides it time to introduce me to Villa Park.  :o
We beat Leeds 3-0 and go on an unbeaten 6 match home run including a 2-1 win against Man U.  :)
But still get relegated losing at home 4-2 to Everton with my Dad going mad about Alan Ball disrespecting us wiping his nose on the corner flag !  :'(

One that sticks in my memory is the 5-3 home defeat by Portsmouth in January 1970, which saw the end of Tommy Doc.
It was 2-2 at halftime, but an early goal and two late ones in the second half killed us off.
Docherty was forever tinkling with formation and players, and in this game played three centre backs in Turnbull, Curtis and Edwards, with youngsters Barry Lynch and Jimmy Brown, and midget Dave Rudge as a centre forward.
Bruce Rioch scored two, and Willie Anderson with the other.
Phillips: Wright, Lynch (Martin):Turnbull, Curtis, Edwards: Anderson, Godfrey, Rudge, Brown, Rioch(B).

That game has always stuck in mind too for some reason. Rioch's goal was a glancing header if I remember rightly.

As I recall, it was a powerful far-post header from a right-wing cross.
I can't remember who out the ball in, though.
