Before he leaves the building has anyone checked if he can play in central defence?

Yep, he did his best and left with the club in apparently decent hands. Fair enough.

he was always a bit of a mystery man and I think no matter what happened on the pitch
we would have run into trouble at some point

but you are only as good as the people you employ and he employed RDM, Bruce and Wyness
three massive hopeless mistakes and the run towards bankruptcy became a possibility

If he can play in central defence we will end up playing him at full back.

My thoughts exactly.  If he's 5'6" though he would be up front trying to win long balls pumped up to him.

Can someone express this  news in Xia's famous transfer tweet style?
I wish him success in everything else he does.

Thanks for trying Dr Tony. Left us with some nice memories. Shame it didn't work out. Good luck in the future. Hopefully you will be a villa fan for life.

compared to some football club owners, he was never the worst. At least he backed his managers in each transfer window.
I preferred him to Randy Lerner, and Doug Ellis if I’m honest. At least he never took us for fools.
Good luck Dr Tony, I’m sure we’ll hear more of him in years to come.

This. In the rogue’s gallery of recent managers and owners he is nowhere near the worst of them.

Is this the same Tony Xia who took us to the brink of administration?

I never liked him. I especially didn't like the emoji-filled tweets.

Was he not proven to be a charlatan? Borrowed against getting into the PL and when that didn't work, the big boys turned off the credit? He would have been exposed, promotion or not, when his backers went looking for a return on their investment. His doctorate was also questionable. He was closer to a snake oil salesman than anything.

Yes, he gambled everything on promotion. It didn't quite work. Luckily, we are too big to fail so it might not affect us too badly after all.
