Pisser. Be tempted to bench him for the next couple only to be brought on if we’re desperate.

We absolutely need him the playoffs.

Deffo need this situation to be managed. We have enough cover in midfield to go to Bolton and Milwall at home without risking our best player.

Yep we should be able to cement a playoff place without him against them, but if not he’ll have had a rest ahead of games against Leeds and Norwich which will have become shit or bust anyway.

Well as its a potential 3 game ban he can play against Bolton, then if he picks up a booking we pull him out and rest him till the play offs. No booking and he plays the next game. But as soon as he gets a booking he gets subbed so not to risk it. Simple isn't it.

I'd be more inclined to play him until he gets one more booking then leave him out until the play offs. We'll piss Bolton and Millwall with him playing, which should be enough to guarantee the top 6.

I can see why it's tempting to leave him on the bench against Bolton though, particularly if Grealish is back.

Play him on Friday. If he doesn’t get booked, play him on Monday. If he does, lock him in a cupboard until the play offs.

I guess the point is to do you still play him against teams we should beat without him or use him to minimise risk of unexpectedly dropping points and risk another card that all but rules him out of the remaining games unless we get desperate.

Personally, given last few games and particularly Rotherham I’d like him to be rested soon anyway as he probably needs it. To me he looked a bit off it on Saturday, until the end when we were defending the 1 goal lead, by his own ridiculous standards.

That’s what I reckon Smith will do

What does a one match ban for a red do to the tally? Might have a plan involving alioski...

But isn’t this good news, clarification/confirmation that a booking once in the playoffs won’t add to the count. It’s certainly good news that we won’t need to keep discussing it.

Yep thank f**k that’s finally cleared up so we can get on with our lives and look forward to supporting all the Villa boys in the playoffs.

Making sure we bag the next 6pts is what’s most important at this stage and he will have recovered by Friday, so don’t take any risks and play him until he gets booked again.

All being well, we may well have secured our playoff spot by the time we play Leeds or Norwich, so I’d certainly be resting/protecting Jack, SJM and Tammy for those games as a precaution if we have that luxury option.

I'd certainly rest players vrs Leeds as it's possible we could face them in the play offs.

What would happen if he got a red (for two yellows) in the next game

Does he then only miss the next game (Millwall)

Maybe if we were 2/3 up against Bolton then should we play / bend the rules?

I know it is not in the spirit of the game but what the hell

I may be wrong but I think it might a ban for the yellows and another for the red. So 4 games.

It’s like the nutter on the bus and the boring bloke in the pub rolled into one.

This.
