It's tricky though, it was a fairly innocuous looking bump wasn't it? He seemed perfectly fine and then did the responsible thing when he didn't feel right.
Smith also mentioned that the first bump didn't cause the concussion, but there was another challenge that did it. Perhaps it was the repeat knock that caused it.

Yep potentially, but I’d still say it shouldn’t be down to the player to decide. If the first knock is innocuous then it should be fairly simple for the medical team to assess and make that call. It’s about the process rather than this specific decision.

Definitely for the medical staff to decide based on what the player tells them and what they see.

Read article that said protocol for that injury was 6 days rest so fits in with timeline of him returning to training today and raring to go.

Can't see anything but midfield being Doug-Ramsey-SJM. It generally worked well v Chelsea and they have better options in central midfield (o.k perhaps not Saul) than McTominay and Fred so will be a good battle there I think.

Thought SJM was outstanding today and the best midfielder on the pitch. Some of the lung bursting runs he was making in last 20 minutes were ridiculous to get us up the pitch.

I assume with the protocol he hasn't trained much this week so perhaps there's something in that, rest him early part of the training week and then he's raring to go for the weekend as many times he starts to flag on 70 minutes from all the work he puts in, little sign of that today.

Would have been clean through on goal if he hadn't been pulled back and then have the ref completely ignore it.

One of the best performances of his I can remember today. He absolutely ran the middle of the park. The understanding developing between him, Dougie and Ramsey is so promising to see.

That fucked me off so much, it wasnt given purely because we fairly tackled them a few seconds before and they all appealed vigorously, an absolutely awful decision by Mike Dean.

Shocking decision, from a shocking referee. SJM was at his awesome best today.
