EFL Statement Regarding Embargo.
« on: July 30, 2018, 06:29:02 PM »
This from the Meaning Evil.

This is what the EFL have said about Aston Villa's finances

AVFC were under scrutiny following the recent change of ownership and the previous problems at the club

The EFL have confirmed that Aston Villa are now free to sign players before the start of the Championship season following a recent investigation into the club's finances.

Villa had certain restrictions placed on their transfer activity this summer but those have now been lifted.

In a statement today, an EFL spokesman said:

“The EFL has completed its review of the change of control application made by Aston Villa Football Club.

“The Club and its shareholders are required to comply with a number of financial reporting requirements moving forwards.

“The EFL can further confirm that the Club is not subject to a registration embargo.”

Earlier today we reported how the club were hoping to announce their first signing of the summer this week after the EFL relaxed their recent scrutiny over the club.

It’s understood that Villa were operating under a ‘soft’ transfer embargo following investigations into the club’s finances.

Boss Steve Bruce has been unable to register any new players because of the previous money problems under Tony Xia.

It was only two months ago that Villa missed a tax payment and there were serious concerns of administration following a struggle to pay other bills.

But the recent change of ownership has helped ease any financial fears and Villa are now close to finding a solution for their problems.

Goalkeeper Andre Moreira has been lined up and is expected to sign on a season-long loan deal from Atletico Madrid.

BirminghamLive understands that new owners Naseef Sawiris and Wes Edens have enlisted the help of super-agent Jorge Mendes to assist in transfer dealings this season.

Moreira is indeed a client of Mendes - but Bruce is still having the final say on all incomings.

He continues to track his own targets, too, with Robert Snodgrass still on the radar following a successful campaign last season.

Liverpool’s Ben Woodburn is another player Bruce would like to sign having missed out on Harry Wilson, who joined Derby County, earlier this month.

Further good news is that James Chester and Jonathan Kodjia are now expected to stay, while Tottenham will need to lodge a bid of over £25million to prize Jack Grealish away.

When asked if he was able to sign any players before the start of the season, Bruce told BirminghamLive:

“Yes, but we’ve still got problems to overcome."

And on Saturday we revealed that Villa will resist bids for their star players this summer, with Bruce adding:

“The one thing that the pair of them (Sawiris and Edens) have said it that no-body is for sale.

“That’s music to my ears.

Amusingly they have also issued a statement saying Blues are still not able to sign anyone and haven’t been since 13th July.

It’s interesting, is it usual the EFl to release a statement like that? Also does this give any indication around FFP? Do the new measures allow preemptive embargo’s etc?

Do they? That’s his contract clause trigger is it? The Mail have tried to sell Grealish since an hour after the play off final, wankers.

I'm sure Spurts don't read the Mail? Does anyone?

Reading the statement on Blues, maybe we have satisfied FFP requirements.

The Meaning Evil should employ sub-editors who speak British English and can spell the verb 'prise'.

It doesn't sound like we're completely out of the woods, considering the unspecified financial reporting requirements that are mentioned.

I imagine that’s standard. It’s like in the financial sector when punishments are levied or a control failure is identified. You can remediate the failure but the Regulator will request regular post-event reporting to prove the failing is truly fixed.

Fair enough, don't know enough about that side of things to be sure. Just didn't sound like a total "fill your boots, lads" statement to me, which i suppose is to be expected.

I would imagine that it is a case of the new owners appearing capable of meeting all the requirements but having been fooled by incoming owners in the past the powers that be are waiting to be able to totally sign off on the previous issues.

As for Small Heath nothing seems to have changed with their situation. I am still unclear as to where they stand but it appears they have financial problems regarding their owners and the running of the club and as we have recently found out there tends to be no smoke without fire.
