The expected goals thing is the latest unnecessary and pointless statistic. To paraphrase Top Flight Time Machine, statistics are for c**ts!

Absolutely
what bought it home me to me about stats proving nothing is our fella in goal the other night at Yeovil
Clean sheet and saved a pen looks great on the stat sheet, a perfect game

anyone that watched it knew different

See, to me that just shows that you don't understand stats (i don't mean that in a patronising way, and I really can't be bothered with arguing if you think I'm being rude).  Saved a pen and a clean sheet in 1 game are useless statistics because they provide no insight, any analyst would tell you the same.  However if, over time, stats show that Moreira saves 60% of pens to his right and 12% to his left that suggests you aim to his left, so there's some value. Clean sheets are always meaningless.

The expected goals thing though, along with a few other stats, is actually doing a good job of predicting results and will improve over time.

The key thing with stats is working out which ones are worth tracking.  Having an attitude that they're all shit is why people like Sherwood, RDM and Bruce get away with being so half-arsed about doing their job.  We have a thread on here right now asking why Brentford do so well against us, I'd put money on it being, in no small part, because they have a very good analyst who has helped give them a game plan to stifle us.

Some stats are just universally 'true' (with a reasonable rate of deviation to be expected), for example my rule of 3s thing, if you apply it to any meaningful sample of games (100+) it's always within a few %.  A team here or there might skew things massively over a small number of games but it always reverts back.  Calling people c**ts because they see some value in knowing that is pretty childish.

Maybe some people don't like VAR too and see that as unnecessary but we have to accept these things as part of the sport these days.

Football analytics is part of game .

VAR is completely different to stats.

I understand stats but take no notice of them whatsoever and don't require being bored to death by some patronising git explaining them.

You're the one being patronising by saying people who value them are ******, which is the sort of thing a pathetic ****** would do.

Yes please
When????
First thing in the morning
Just what is he bringing to the club right now???
Stability? Maybe but all that is gonna bring about is a top 10 finish - we need to  aiming at top two and that won't happen under Bruce

Get rid of the cock-burn. Anyone who plays that defence, AGAIN, doesn't deserve to be employed by us

He'll do just enough to make us look bad if we sack him but not quite enough to meet our ambitions, just like the last 2 seasons.
