The U23's may be good to watch against other U23's. But don't kid yourself that we have a long line of great footballers ready to step up a few levels.

I can not think of one player who looked half decent last night, and that includes the 'young lads'. A lot of that may be down to Bruce's continual pissing about, seemingly not having a clue what he's doing, and some of it could be down to us praising every little, basic, thing a young player does, just because we want to believe the future is bright.

I could just be pissed off after years of shite, but the club stinks at the moment.

...and the award of little ray of sunshine this week goes to...

I know. i feel guilty, what with all of the beautiful football and wonderful results Villa have been dishing out over the last few years. Not to mention the records being broken year after year.

Slap my hand.

I'd say the kids have been of the few bright spots of the last year or so.

To be fair, I bet there hasn't been a period in our entire history where we've broken so many club records in such a short space of time!

Our 'reserves' are not the bags of shite that played last night. Our reserves (now called the U23s i believe) are actually quite good to watch

And the likes of Elphick, Samba, Hutton, McCormack or Birkir wouldn't even get in that side

I can blame Bruce for two of those signings, and the 2/3m (if that) that they cost combined. But it's obvious no manger has a 100% success rate with signings, i can't think of one that ever has or ever will either.

Couldn't care less about the result or attendance last night truth be told, i'd be a hypocrite if i did seeing how i sat at home last night and couldn't even be arsed to go myself

Did you not think O'Hare had a decent game last night, especially as he was playing out of position?

I thought he played well in a terrible team. Personally I'd rather have watched the entire U 23 side play because I wouldn't have had to watch so-called first team squad members go through the motions. Does anybody think that Birkir will start to play well when the temperature drops or is that me being mildly racist?

Birkir is from Iceland, I think he might be used to it being a little chilly sometimes.

Guilty as charged.

I thought the whole evening was a bit weird to be fair.
Firstly was it me or was there a complete lack of burger bars around the ground? surely the first time that's happened.
Also, having to queue up to get into the Doug Ellis before kick off.
And finally, we really did see the 12th man on the Holte End at the final whistle. Because that's how many were left.

Looking at some of tonight's attendances, I don't think the League Cup is dead as suggested by us lot last night. It's just a fact we are not  worth watching.

Man. United had to close off a tier tonight apparently. Both Man. United and Arsenal attendances were inflated by big away followings, Doncaster took 6k to the Emirates. I assume Boro didn't manage four figures which is very understandble.

We've always had low attendances in the league cup at this round. Posted elsewhere but worth a comparison:

08/09- QPR (22K)
09/10- Cardiff (22k)- More Cardiff than Boro I'd confidently predict.
10/11- Blackburn (18k)- Houllier's first game.
12/13- Tranmere (15k), Lambert's third game.

Needs a massive re-think on ticket prices/incentives particularly if you draw a team in the same division.

Get him bloody well gone. I am not having a pop at any fellow fans when I say this but FFS the past few years has been a long slow acceptance of us being a small tin pot club. We are not. Its not just what we have won we are a sodding big club dammit.

Can you imagine the likes of Everton or Spurs or Chelsea accepting being lower half of the Championship? Let alone keeping the manager who ended up there last season and already has us there again this?

No, a thousand times no.

This acceptance of us being some middle of the road second rate club has got to end. It needs to end now. Xia got very lucky picking up this club for such a good price. Now is the time to get ruthless and stop accepting failure in the manager. Go buy another better one Tony. Its what this club demands and deserves.

It's this 'we're a big club' thing that stops some folks from enjoying anything Villa related these days it seems. We were a big club once upon a time, and we're still a historically big club to us and anyone in the media over the age of 40 that gives two shits about us. But to anyone else we're an irrelevance and just another team (like Everton for example) that just exist for no apparent reason.

I doubt there's a person (non Villa related) under the age of 30 that considers us a big club. And the sooner folks realise this is the way it is the better i reckon.

I just enjoy the Villa for me, what other people think of us, or what opposition we're playing week in week out doesn't really bother me. I only go to the game to watch us, so whether we're playing Brentford or Arsenal genuinely doesn't bother me one bit. I don't feel any shame at being in this league, i don't miss the PL one bit, and i haven't watched MOTD for over a year either.

I've literally no interest in watching any other football anymore. I just watch my team, and that's it. If we do well great, if we do bad, we try again next match. No drama.

I never get this age obsession, like nobody under the age of thirty is capable of reading about football history or looking at a list of former League Champions on the internet. They have Wikipedia now, you know.

I would imagine that there are plenty of under-thirties, Villa supporters and otherwise, who regard us as the massive club that we are.
