I wouldn't have let him go at the start of the transfer window. I certainly wouldn't now, when we have a backlog of games to play in a short space of time and there is a good chance that we may have players who take a long time to be fully match fit. I think Saint Maximum has yet to recover fully from Covid and he got in about November.

Unless we are bringing people in, letting players like HL leave would be madness, IMO.

Can't be out of contract if we're considering a loan move.

Think he finishes 2022

Aston Villa are considering letting Conor Hourihane leave on loan this month amid interest from a number of clubs according to football insider.

Yes he would suit a challenging championship team however I feel he a great asset to have in squad and with all the matches and uncertainty of the season hes solid enough to remain part of match day squads and if he's going then someone in midfield must be lined up - and would obviously be a higher level

Model pro is conor good luck to him if he's seeking more first team minutes and playing involvement if rumours are to be believed

https://www.footballinsider247.com/exclusive-big-update-on-aston-villa-letting-hourihane-leave-this-month/

“ He has played 150 times for the Midlands giants, scoring an impressive 29 goals as well as supplying 23 assists.”

Goals 1 in 5 (obv mainly at lower level)
Goal involvement 1 in 3

Big stats.

I wouldn't be loaning him out unless we have incomings.

Agreed. Who knows how Covid may effect the players who have contracted it, plus we have a lot of games to fit in now.

Not necessarily someone incoming if he does leave, it might means Jacob Ramsey is more involved as a genuine first team squad member with another u23 stepping up as a 'fringe' player.

I like Conor's attitude and he has certainly scored some vital goals - though like Trez and maybe Guilbert - if we are to progress as we want, upgrades are required and sentiment is even more marginalised.

If the rumours around Aaron Ramsey attracting interest from Ajax and Celtic are true it could be that he steps up, or Chukwuemeka who looks a fantastic prospect. Central midfield looks like an area where we have a lot of talent breaking through if you add in the 3 who played in the cup as well.

I think a lot of the speculation of Hourihane leaving is due to the emergence of Ramsay and Villa's determination to keep hold.  Realistically Hourihane has been hit and miss since he first signed.  If you took his free kicks out of it, then bang average at best imo.

But if you include his free kicks - because, why wouldn't you? - he's been a really important player.

He also knows where the back of the net is as well, which is a useful quality for a sub. Particularly as we're desperately short in the back-up striker department.

Does not do enough with or without the ball In attack or defence for a midfield player, he struggled with this aspect of the game even in the championship.
Decent dead ball and a good strike and maybe useful impact sub when opposition tired.
A good pro and servant to the club and wish him well.

Getting rid of players without bringing any in  when the squad could be recovering from Covid for ages and will likely be playing two games a week for months, is fucking mental. It's the sort of thing Ellis Villa would have done.

If you took his assists, set pieces and goals out of it then I'd agree

Have always had time for Conor even when many on here were critical.  He has more than made a contribution in the Premier League and his free kicks are a powerful weapon off the bench.  A nice guy too and I would keep him for now

Holograms time at Villa has been a big success and he did his share of helping Villa back to the premier league. It is time for him to move on now though to prolong his playing career. No good sitting on our bench until he retires. He can still do a job for someone in the championship
