Hope Root is ok, severe dehydration sounds pretty serious.

Its been a tough tour that's for sure and the support for Anderson has been really poor which seems in contrast to Australia. Btw I've just managed to pick up 40 years of Wisden Almanacks last week which I know makes me both very sad and seriously happy!

Hope Root is ok, severe dehydration sounds pretty serious.

In that sort of heat, surely it would have been prudent for the umpires to allow much more frequent drinks breaks and just finish the day a bit later if need be?

One extra break per session is clearly inadequate in the conditions

According to the radio, the temperature reading out in the middle yesterday was 57c (135F).  It was also Sydney's hottest day since 1939.

The poor buggers.

It was not fun yesterday in more ways than one. Constant water was the answer for us. Anyway Joe is looking in fine and Aussies don’t seem too interested so dare I say there is chance we could hold out😊

I think Root showed a lot of courage to bat at all. As Farbrace said yesterday the planning of how to win in Australia starts now.

I'm as pessimistic about our chances going into an Ashes series as I've been for 15 years if I'm honest.  I dont think we'll score the runs required and our attack looks weak without Stokes to back up Anderson and Broad. Personally I think we'll get hammered again.

The only thing that gives me any optimism is the fact that this Aussie side really isn't all that, certainly as weak a batting line up as they've had in years. But home advantage and their pace attack will be too strong for us. 4-0 Australia.

Speaking of predictions, wish I'd had some money on it now.

Jimmy with a Trump-esque lack of awareness

“We’ve not been blown away in every game"

4-0

10 wickets
120 runs
Innings and 41 runs
Innings and 123 runs

Pretty much the definition of blown away

I don't think that any credit can be given for drawing on that MCG wicket

That was a fitting end to a turd of an attempt to win over there.

Positives, apparently they're all good mates and won't turn on each other. Which is lovely.

Which will be crucial for the upcoming series in NZ and might enable them to build a new team and culture. If they hated one another they'd be even worse off.  Remember the Pietersen debacle, once defeats creep in its every man for himself and tweets from Piers Morgan.

If it wasn't for money we'd be playing 3 test series against them down there. We are embarrassing in OZ.

Yes we are, as I said earlier I've witnessed first hand two 5-0 series whitewashes. They ended seasoned players careers and led the clear outs. They were the catalyst to the breaking up of teams, this might be the catalyst to the birth of one.

Of the established players, Anderson has earned another Summer and Cook also has at least another year or possibly 3 if he wants it enough, only Broad and Moeen have come out of the series with some question marks while we've unearthed a few potential 'finds'.

And yes we've been hammered make no mistake. But because of this its not quite as soul destroyingly as those other two series defeats for me.  We really were never going to win this series.

To be honest, those are the kind of scorelines you would expect from a team like Bangladesh going there.  It's been another really poor effort from a side who never really looked like they believed they could win and is unacceptable really.  We were the cricketing equivalent of a football team who struggled to score and couldn't stop conceding.

Problem is, I don't see where the players are who can come in and change things.  Stokes will obviously make a difference when he returns, but apart from that?  I wouldn't really be looking to make massive changes for NZ anyway (think it is a bit ridiculous we are going there after an Ashes series but money talks) and Stoneman, Vince and Malan have probably just about done enough to be given another chance.  As for the bowling, I suppose Anderson and Broad continue and then it is two from Curran, Overton, Woakes if they are fit.

As I said, we could probably do without going to NZ really and instead come back and get everyone fit and ready for the start of the season.

I think we're at a wait and see stage for the bowlers, I wouldn't be shocked if we see 1 of Broad or Anderson for NZ and Pakistan.  I also think you can add Crane into the mix and we might see Ali miss a few as well.
