Alison Mitchell really is superb (and soon belongs on another thread here), it's a masterstroke to give her a big part in the commentary team.

I don't quite know what she brings to the commentary team, when she was on with Adam Gilchrist he was excellent, offering a lot of insight, whereas she just seemed to state the bleeding obvious, "It's gone for 4" etc or occasionally a "Will it make to the boundary?". Rather her than Swann though.

They're in front without a doubt but a couple of quick wickets can change everything. Right now I'd take being within 20-30 of them after first innings.

Swann thinks he's the court jester but in reality he's a complete knob. His attempts at West Indian accents on TMS in the summer were puerile and from the Jim Davidson school of unacceptable "comedy accents".

Heard him attempt a Yorkshire accent at one stage, I just find myself swearing at the TV when he's on. Bet him and Vaughan have terrific 'bants'.

I think with Smith the way to deal with him is to try and nullify his scoring. I don't think going aggressive or attacking at him works, but if you stop him scoring I think it might force something rash.

Great days cricket, ebbed and flowed and ultimately Australia came out on top at the close.  Talked to a lot of Aussies tonight and none are being over confident, Smith is key, get him early tomorrow and we are on top,  problem is that last session Smith and Marsh looked very comfortable and there’s still nearly 30 overs until the new ball.
Absolutely loving Brisbane, went to Rugby Union WC semi tonight, Oz v fiji, an absolute massacre, hopefully not an omen for test.
Ps, weather forecast here suggests there will be a lot of rain delays tomorrow

I agree, a similar approach to that taken by Lyon in the first hour yesterday. For me Smith is another player who likes feeling bat on ball so a spell of making him go after it might be a good idea.

Christ I heard that, just awful. He continues to talk through the deliveries as well demonstrating how clueless he is about broadcasting.

I don’t like him anymore than you chaps but he did raise an interesting observation about Lyons bowling in his first stint on air last night, and how the lack of an arm ball actually stops him bowling many deliveries that are hitting the stumps so he eliminates bowled and lbw as modes of dismissal. Lyon changed attack later so whether coincidence or someone in the Aussie camp was listening we’ll probably not know but I thought it was a creditable point of note as an ex off-spinner commenting on another. He also demonstrated how he changed his action to deliver a straight on ball - the volume and nature of the wickets he got demonstrate he does know his trade at least

If he could stick to comments such as the above he'd be great but unfortunately I no longer hear what he's saying as he's too busy being the 'joker' and working on his club act.

Absolutely.  He's too interested in the 'bantz' most of the time.  On top of that I think he overplayed the thing about lyons bowling, he just went on for too long.

Maybe - but I’d still like give him credit for an observation no one else came up with including former international captains

You know that feeling watching England when you know we're not going to get a wicket, that's the feeling I'm getting.
