I agree about Anderson's comments, absolute drivel. "Other series have been absolutely disastrous, but this doesn't feel like that." It's not really the time to be coming out with nonsense of that order when you've just been absolutely smashed by an innings and a hundred odd runs, you daft sod.  Two innings where they've got around the 700 mark is the very definition of being blown away.

Jimmy with a Trump-esque lack of awareness

“We’ve not been blown away in every game"

4-0

10 wickets
120 runs
Innings and 41 runs
Innings and 123 runs

Pretty much the definition of blown away

I don't think that any credit can be given for drawing on that MCG wicket

To be honest, those are the kind of scorelines you would expect from a team like Bangladesh going there.  It's been another really poor effort from a side who never really looked like they believed they could win and is unacceptable really.  We were the cricketing equivalent of a football team who struggled to score and couldn't stop conceding.

Problem is, I don't see where the players are who can come in and change things.  Stokes will obviously make a difference when he returns, but apart from that?  I wouldn't really be looking to make massive changes for NZ anyway (think it is a bit ridiculous we are going there after an Ashes series but money talks) and Stoneman, Vince and Malan have probably just about done enough to be given another chance.  As for the bowling, I suppose Anderson and Broad continue and then it is two from Curran, Overton, Woakes if they are fit.

As I said, we could probably do without going to NZ really and instead come back and get everyone fit and ready for the start of the season.

I think we're at a wait and see stage for the bowlers, I wouldn't be shocked if we see 1 of Broad or Anderson for NZ and Pakistan.  I also think you can add Crane into the mix and we might see Ali miss a few as well.

Plunkett and Wood are both in the ODI squad so if they perform well, then surely they should be considered for the NZ tour.

Yes we are, as I said earlier I've witnessed first hand two 5-0 series whitewashes. They ended seasoned players careers and led the clear outs. They were the catalyst to the breaking up of teams, this might be the catalyst to the birth of one.

Of the established players, Anderson has earned another Summer and Cook also has at least another year or possibly 3 if he wants it enough, only Broad and Moeen have come out of the series with some question marks while we've unearthed a few potential 'finds'.

And yes we've been hammered make no mistake. But because of this its not quite as soul destroyingly as those other two series defeats for me.  We really were never going to win this series.

Anderson has earned as long as he wants, we appear to be in a lot of trouble when he retires.

We obviously haven't got bowlers who are in his class, but we've got bowlers who could do the role of opening and getting the most out of any early movement (like Hoggard used to).  I would say Roland-Jones and to some extent Woakes could both fulfil that role.  It's the lack of any real pace that concerns me more.

The other Overton might be the best option for proper pace right now but slightly longer term Jofra Archer looks like a superstar in the making (full disclosure I had no idea he was interested in England until I watched a big bash game last week and looked him up properly) and he looks like he can add a little more pace fairly easily.  His record is superb - http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/content/player/669855.html and he's a proper all-rounder.  If you get chance to watch the hurricanes in the big bash he's been brilliant for them.

Haven't seen much of the Big Bash to be honest Paul, but his name vaguely rings a bell and he sounds like a real talent.  I would like to see someone with a bit of raw pace given a chance and not have their action interfered with too much in the England camp.  Just encourage them to bowl fast.

What i saw he was bowling 140ish which is about 87, so not rapid but definitely something to work with.  That's t20 though so would have to see if he can do 20overs a day at that level.

Is he qualified for England yet or does he have to time serve?

I think that's what the commentators said on the big bash as well (late 2019 specifically).

If anyone is interested the next hurricanes game is on BTsport 2 on Wednesday morning (from 8:40) and him and Mills are both likely to play.

I thought he had a 7 year wait (so 2022-23) but maybe wrong.

As he was resident in this country under age of 18 qualification period is 4 years. 7 years for other age groups etc.

Watched just about every BBL match so far, including the Hurricanes - Archer looks like a genuine prospect, easy pace off a short run-up and decent control as well. Mills looks pretty shithouse though, to be honest.
