Everytime you boys mention Longton I keep thinking you're on about the one in Stoke on Trent!

Dated a girl from round there a while ago you see...the Preston version sounds just as depressing.

PNE Fan, as you might imagine me being a Villa fan, I'm originally from the Midlands (Solihull), I've lived in Longton for three years, but have been up north for twenty years, living around north Bolton.  Anyhow, the pubs in Longton are utter gash, there is not one single redeeming feature.  Nothing fills me with dread more than a night out in Longton, not that is not perfectly pleasant, but they pubs are so soulless.  The Moorbrook sounds great, read some online reviews too, I will make a point of checking it out, whether I can drag my brummie mates there or not tomorrow is another story (-:   Thanks again.
Really surprised by that, but then again i have the pubs in Penwortham to live with. Have always liked the Rams Head and the Red Lion in Longton on a friday/saturday night

And I live in Morecambe right now so I'm another northen Villain going to the game tomorrow.  It should be a great atmosphere and its the first time me and my Mum have been to a game together since Palace away in December 2014 so am hopeing for a decent performance and the required win :)

Unfortunately Laurence all I can do is agree.

I've never been massively taken by any of the Longton pubs with maybe the exception of The Dolphin but that is hardly a place you can just pop too for a pint. The food in The Rams, like the Dolphin, is good and the portions humungus but as a result it is 90% food focused and the ale is bland. The Golden Ball, which I've always considered very expensive (even when my sister worked there) and souless has now been bought by the Rams/Dolphin family and so is likely to go the same way (only with a rumoured Tapas angle). The Red Lion is very 'local' and can be a bit edgy at times but do have some good bands on at time whilst The Black Bull, well there really isn't anything I can say that is good or bad about it, bar maybe the interesting photos of Longton/Preston past on the walls. It has recently gone through a massive refurb but dad says the only thing that has changed is the decor.

I have said on numerous times that if someone could turn one of the pubs into a cask/craft focused establishment, or open a microbar in one of the shop units opp the church, they would make a fortune because the ale scene in Longton is dull at best and there are a lot of people living there with money to spend. There is good reason why only The Dolphin made it into Camra's 2017 Good Beer Guide as the four other pubs have served the same 7 ales (RH - Wainwrights/Bombardier, BB - Copper Dragon Best, RL - Greene King IPA/Theakstons Best, GB - Doombar/Dizzy Blonde) for the last two/three years. :(

Penwortham unfortunately suffers from the same afflication though I'm told Wetherspoon's are looking at the old Booths/Natwest Bank buildings as a possible site for their second South Ribble venture.

Anyhow, see you all in The Moorbrook. Gone for a 1996/8 'BAXI' home shirt with blue sleeves and collar. Not particularly gifted when it comes to a good set of hair!  ::)

Hi PNEfan, sounds like we are of the same mind!  Interesting about the Wetherspoons news, I hadn't heard that. Sorry I didn't see this message yesterday, as I would heva said hello.  I was in the Moorbank though, in the first alcove on the left.   Great recommendation, we all enjoyed the atmosphere, food and beer.   Actually, while on the pitch we are beyond crap I actually had a really good day out, catching up with old friends.  Thanks again and good luck to PNE for the rest of the season.  Now of to convince my young lads to support the Villa, cough.
