John Neal RIP
« on: November 25, 2014, 11:36:12 AM »
Following a night where stars of the past were on hand to celebrate the 140th Birthday of our Club it is sad to hear that a former Player has passed away . John Neal , who was a very accomplished Full Back for us in the late Fifties and went on to manage Chelsea among others .
John Neal was a ' Gentleman' in the true sporting meaning of the word , RIP , John .....................................Godzvilla!

Always seemed too nice to be a football manager, especially for Chelsea

I remember watching him when I first went to the Villa.  Without looking it up I think he might have replaced Peter Aldis and was in competition with Gordon Lee.  I could be horribly wrong.

Always came across as a decent man.

As I remember, a great exponent of the sliding tackle.  I think I remember reading a quote from him somewhere; years ago, about how he could feel the greatness of Aston Villa the first time he walked up the steps of the (old) Trinity stand.  RIP John, I remember you well.
