delph isnt anywhere near as effective when put out on the left wing...
He played LM for Leeds.

Some of his best form was in that position.
but the majority of of his best form was in the centre...

whenever i watched him, he always drifted out of the game on the left wing, and i spoke to a lot of leeds fans after we signed him, and they pretty much backed up what i had seen, that we wouldnt get the best out of him on the left hand side, as he is better influencing the game in the centre....

Eventually I do see him making the best impact directly in CM, but playing him wide left or left of a central three gives him cover to play his natural game more whilst he adapts to the top flight.

At LM he'll have Warnock in behind him, on the left side of a central three he'd have Petrov, NRC or AN Other covering him.  If he plays in an orthodox two man CM, bombs forward and leaves huge gaps  that result in goals scored there will be a deluge of threads saying 'Third division player/ Delph not good enough for where we want to go' and so on.

i understand what you are saying, and to a degree, i agree with it, however, i think a left of a central three is the best position for him...

that way, he can get used to the pace of the prem with protection around him, closer to his correct position...

i dont think we should use him wide left, mainly because 1, he isnt as effective out there and his game / confidence could suffer, and 2, the wing areas are completely different style of game to the central areas, so he wouldnt be adapting to his position...

and its not like he needs to learn the what he would want from the movement of a striker from a wide area perspective, to help improve his game, like gabby did...

dont get me wrong, hes an option out wide, shoud it needed, and versatility is always good, but i want to see the best out of him, for the last reason you mention... a couple of average games out wide where he is less effective as he is in the centre, and the knives will be out...

Reactivating this old thread which refers to his original injury, but unless I have missed something the question is worth asking again as although I see passing references to his most recent absence and return, there seems to be an eery silence from the club about the extent of his injury and his most recent ley-off.
Anyone have any news on this?

I have been trying to find out about the recent injury. But as you said the official site is very quiet and that is slightly worrying ............

Delph seemed in good spirits when the team visited Acorns the other day.

I think that Delph is a box to box midfielder, that sort of role that at Arsenal has Diaby. So, if we play 4-3-3 he can play advanced CM, with tho other CM covering him, that could be Makoun and Petrov or NRC.

Even if we don't get Adam in this transfer window, a midfield of Coker/Petrov - Makoun - Delph does look a lot better.

Options, versatility, speed, creativity, toughness - what more could you ask for!

According to Villatalk they're saying on there that he's back in training but won't be rushed this time - Houllier was an idiot to play him in the first team so soon. They are also trying to arrange a practice game for him.

If it hasn't been tweeted, then it isn't true.

Delph is in a couple of the pictures from the training session on Friday. He looks fine - he could feature against Blackburn on Saturday - at least on the bench, but hopefully he's fit enough to start. Encouraging!

Don't rush him, but it'll be good to have him back.

GH admitted he rushed him back didn't he? I'd say he's just proceeding with caution this time.
