Did my first run of the year yesterday. Took it quite easy as I have just got over a pulled calf, doing 12km in slightly over an hour.

Taking the bike out today for a spin today.

I haven’t been able to do any yet this year as I seem to have come down with sciatica on New Year’s Day. Grrr. Absolutely chomping at the bit to get back out there.

Did my second run of the year tonight. Took it quite easy as it was icy as anything on the pavements. And by "took it quite easy", I don't mean a JD style 18 min 5K! :)

With the gyms closed I’ve been out pounding the streets today. I’m not normally a runner so I was surprised at how far I got without needing a breather, probably a mile. So now I’m aiming to build on that and gently push myself towards a 5k target.

Go for it! Was that your first run? If so, a mile is very good going, you'll be doing 5K in no time.

Tentatively got on the running machine today as the sciatica has been easing off. Did about 25 minutes without obvious ill effects so touch wood I’ll be back out there soon.

I actually find that running helps my sciatica. It's when I sit around all day doing nothing that it flares up.

Yes it was my first “proper” run, I’m used to doing cardio stuff in the gym but it felt totally different pounding the pavement. I’m going to continue and hopefully hit that 5k target soon.

I’m getting quite big differences in time/distance between my phone and my garmin watch. Anybody else had this occur, it was miles out yesterday?

That is odd, mine seems synced up. Is it a difference between what your watch is recording and the Garmin app? Or is the Garmin app as per your watch and then it’s different on another running app, i.e. Strava?

My Garmin once reckoned I’d broken the world mile record.

3 weeks into a 20 week training plan for a 100km ultramarathon in July. Racking up the ascent big time round these parts and averaging around 20+ metres ascent per km so far.

Disaster struck last week with a severe case of tendonitis in my left achilles. Was making progress in running faster and looked like my average pace for a timed 30 minute effort would be well under 4:30 per km but now haven't run for a week as advised by physio so a week of gentle walking and some aggressive achilles massage has followed. I hate being injured.
