A new 5k PB for me on Saturday now down to 23:00. Didn’t go quite as well as expected (far too much alcohol the day before!!) but more progress as another 10s Per km off the min:km pace. Got a couple of heavy training weeks coming up so hopefully more progress as we move forwards.

Fackin' 'ell!

It’s all in the Zone 5 Interval training Risso. Seriously I only do 3 runs a week (1 45 min High pace interval training, 1 30 min recovery run and 1 50-60 min endurance slow pace run) that adds up to about 20-25k at my pace and then as I’m doing Duathlon training I do a couple of runs off the bike only about 10-15 mins at a slow pace to get used to transitioning bike to run.

I haven't been out all in two weeks since moving house, must use your tales as motivation a bit.  I thought I was catching you up a bit but am miles off the pace now!  Great work though fella, sounds like you're working really hard at it.  I'm very impressed.

18 weeks off running due to rehab. I’m back. I’ve missed it.

Dodgy hamstrings lately. Last Friday, the first hilly run where they have felt OK and knee pain (low level at the moment) appears from nowhere. FFS!

Ran fine on the flat today...

That's good news Jon. I haven't run for about 3 months due issues with my hip, but things are getting better.

Are you getting knee pains while you run hills or after. I found running downhill jarred the knees after a number of years, so now avoid running downhills.

Pain seems to start under the kneecap on first significant uphill (at a level which is no issue running through, but worrying), then lingers in the background on the flat thereafter, flaring up a bit with each steep uphill or downhill.

Dull ache after I've finished. I may have slightly hyperextended my knee trying to pick something up while holding the baby a few days before the first run where I felt it.

If I’m right in assuming that MdS is the Marathon de Sables you are indeed certifiably insane. Good luck anyway and rather puts my 2 or 3 Sprint Dua’s and a couple of 10k’s next year to shame!!

I know a couple of people who've done it, and they both say it's the most ridiculously difficult thing they've ever done it, but also the most life-affirmingly brilliant.  The double marathon on one day through the desert sounds a lot of fun!  I think you need to enjoy your blisters' blisters having blisters. You get given a set of amount of water a day, and if you ask for more, Oliver Twist style, you get penalised.

I was stood in the immigration queue at Marrakech airport last year and got talking to a lady who’s wife was running the MdS and was finishing the next day. I listened intently to her story, she’d done it the previous year, the secrecy of the route, the daily challenges, I was utterly spellbound by it. Once we’d left the immigration area my wife looked at me and said something along the lines of ‘so that’s on your to do list then isn’t it?’

It’s a huge expense as well making an Ironman entry fee look like peanuts.

That's shit!  When I was looking at carbon plate trainers, there was one pair (forget which, Asics maybe?) that said they'd need replacing after 50K of use, which struck me as not the best value in the world.
